UTILITY WORKER ARRESTED FOR DUII, HIT AND RUN

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office

On Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 9:27 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported hit and run at NW Glencoe Road and NW Zion Church Road in unincorporated Washington County. It was reported that utility lines were down after a large white utility truck crashed into a utility pole. The caller stated that the suspect vehicle fled and was last seen driving westbound on NW Zion Church Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a utility pole sheared off and utility lines across the roadway. Deputies located a fluid trail that the suspect vehicle had left, and they began following it. At 9:58 p.m., deputies responded to a crash at SW Patton Valley Road and SW Dundee Road. The fluid trail that the deputy was following led straight to this location.

When deputies arrived, they located a Portland General Electric (PGE) utility truck on its side in a ditch. The driver, 32-year-old Quenton Berger of Hillsboro, stated that he lost control of his truck after having to swerve to avoid hitting an oncoming car.

After contacting Berger, deputies observed signs of impairment and conducted a DUII investigation. Deputies determined that Berger’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.16, twice the legal limit, and Berger was arrested for the following crimes:

  • driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII)
  • failure to perform duties of a driver when property is damaged (hit and run)
