RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE - 205 SE LANE AVENUE

Roseburg Fire Dept.

At 8:05 a.m. on March 3, 2023, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported residential structure fire at 205 SE Lane Avenue.  Dispatch notified responding units that all residents had evacuated the structure.

Upon arrival on scene, firefighters found a two story, residential structure with heavy fire and smoke coming from the kitchen area of the home, which was located in the back portion of the structure.  Occupants of the residents informed fire officials that they were sleeping and awoke to smoke inside the residence and smoke alarms sounding.

Firefighters conducted a primary and secondary search on both stories of the home, made an interior attack to extinguish the fire and completed extensive overhaul.   The home sustained structural, smoke, and water damage.  The displaced family included two adult residents and one child.  The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.  Two family dogs were able to evacuate the home; unfortunately, four cats did not survive.

The fire was accidental in nature.  A fire investigator was on scene and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Fifteen firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Douglas County Fire District #2, Roseburg Police Department, American Red Cross, Avista Utilities, and Pacific Power.

The Roseburg Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of working smoke alarms and ensuring you have the appropriate number of smoke alarms installed in the home.  Remember to make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home, outside each sleeping area and in every bedroom.  Roseburg Fire Department recommends that homeowners consider a home fire sprinkler system for increased protection.
