ROSEBURG MAN DIES IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH THURSDAY NIGHT

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A motorcycle operator died in a two vehicle crash Thursday evening.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, at shortly before 4:30 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of a possible fatal crash involving a motorcycle in the 4800-block of Melrose Road in Roseburg.

Deputies responded along with fire and EMS. Deputies determined the operator of a 2020 Suzuki GSX motorcycle had been traveling west on Old Melrose Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with a 2014 Toyota which was making a left hand turn into a residential driveway. Neither operator had time to avoid the collision.  

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as 34-year-old Justin Allen Maxwell of Roseburg. Maxwell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the van, 69-year-old Roseburg resident Steven Gordon Soper was not injured in the incident.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Douglas County Fire District #2, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Douglas County Public Works, and Roseburg Towing.
