OLD GARDEN VALLEY STRUCTURE FIRE

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 On Sunday morning at 03:15 am Douglas County Fire District No.2 responded to a reported House fire on Old Garden Valley road. Crews arrived on scene to find the living room, the front deck, and attic on fire. Two small grass fires were started when fireworks from the garage ignited and started the nearby grass on fire. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the grass fires and keep them from spreading to near by properties.  All the occupants were able to exit the home and were uninjured. DCFD No.2 responded with 3 fire engines, 3 water tenders, 1 ambulance, and 1 Command vehicle.  DCFD No.2 was assisted by DCSO, Avista gas, and PP&L.

Whistler's Park Fire

Douglas Forest Protective Association Around 5 pm, Crews from DFPA and Gilde Rural Fire Protection District responded to an estimated 1 acre grass and brush fire located near the camping area at Whistlers Park in Roseburg, OR. Park goers evacuated the area as ground crews and DFPA's helicopter knocked down the forward spread of the fire.  Crews are on scene and performing mop up.  The cause of the fire is human caused and under investigation.

FATAL CRASH - HWY 22E - MARION COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, August 17, 2023, at approximately 9:27 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Hwy-22E, near milepost 51, in Marion County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a 1995 Dolphin motorhome, operated by Douglas Scott Mulvahill (52) of Scio, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 22E when it struck a pedestrian, Jimmy Ray Graham (64) of Detroit, in the eastbound lane of travel.  It is unknown why the pedestrian was in the roadway.     The pedestrian (Graham) was declared deceased at the scene.     The operator of the motorhome (Mulvahill) remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.  None of the motorhome occupants were injured.   The highway was impacted for approximately 3.5 hours during the on-scene investigation.  The cause of the crash is being investigated.   OSP was assisted by Santiam Fire and Rescue and ODOT.

REDMOND POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

Redmond Police Dept. 59 year-old Redmond resident, David Leppert, was arrested on Thursday, August 17 following a road rage incident. The incident occurred near the intersection of NW Negus Place and NW Canal Blvd. Several witnesses and involved parties called 911 to report the crime, and witnesses were able to provide detailed accounts of the crime by providing timely photo and video evidence of the dispute as it occurred. Leppert was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on crimes of Assault 4, Criminal Mischief II and Disorderly Conduct. The Redmond Police Department would like to thank the witnesses for not becoming involved in the dispute, and safely capturing video and photo evidence.

Deschutes County Sheriff's Office On August 18, 2023, at approximately 10:30 EST, Caleb Joseph Cegers was contacted and arrested without incident in Cleveland, Tennessee. Dahnte Nathaniel Cegers was contacted at a residence in Cleveland, Tennessee earlier in the evening and subsequently taken into custody without incident. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend their appreciation to the United States Marshall Service and the Cleveland (Tennessee) City Police Department for their assistance. Roberts Mountain Fire

Douglas Forest Protective Association ROSEBURG, OR:  On Friday, August 18, 2023, at approximately 4:18 pm., crews from Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Douglas County Fire District No. 2, Winston Dillard Fire Department, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, Riddle Fire Protection District, Oregon State Police (OSP) and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) responded to a 10.34-acre brush and grass fire located near milepost 116 of Interstate 5, on the northbound side.   Upon initial assessment, the fire was estimated to be ½ an acre, and moderately climbing up the mountain. Thanks to a nearby water source, helicopter bucket drops were able to knock down the forward spread of the fire quickly. Collaborative groundwork from all responders, including a DFPA Dozer, aided in getting a hose lay and control line around the perimeter of the fire quickly. As of 7:40 pm, the fire has been 100% trailed, plumbed, and the dozer has been released from the fire.  Interstate 5 has not been

FOUR INJURED IN TRAFFIC COLLISION INVOLVING POLICE VEHICLE

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.—At approximately 3:44 a.m., Gresham police officers and medical personnel responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision involving a sedan and police vehicle at the intersection of NW Eastman Pkwy. and NW Burnside Rd. The three occupants of the sedan and a police officer were transported to area hospitals, all with trauma injuries. The intersection is expected to be closed until approximately 7:30 a.m. The East Metro Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT) responded to the scene and is investigating the crash. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as a Gresham Police officer was involved in the crash. 

LANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES ARREST ARSON SUSPECT

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 08/17/2023 just after 5:00pm a Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a column of smoke coming from the wooded area behind the Ray’s Food Place store on Territorial Hwy. in Veneta.  Additional deputies responded to the area and discovered that a fire had been started and was rapidly growing.  Multiple firefighting resources responded, including a helicopter, to fight the fire.  The fire was controlled and eventually extinguished.    Investigation revealed that 69-year-old Christopher James Barnstable intentionally set the fire.  Barnstable was taken into custody on the charge of Arson in the First Degree.

Deschutes County Sheriff's Office   The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office detective unit is continuing to work tirelessly to apprehend Caleb Joseph Cegers and his brother Dahnte Nathaniel Cegers. On August 11 th , 2023, a nationwide felony arrest warrant was issued for Caleb Joseph Cegers for the crimes of Murder in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.  On August 15 th , 2023, a nationwide felony arrest warrant was issued for Dahnte Nathaniel Cegers for the Crime of Hindering Prosecution. At this time investigators are actively pursuing any and all investigative leads, if the public has any information, they are encouraged to contact Deschutes County 911 non-emergency at 541-693-6911 If these individuals are witnessed by the public, do not approach as they are believed to be armed and dangerous.

Arson Suspected in 10 Greenway Fires in Four Days, Need Public's Help

Fortunately, firefighters have stopped all the fires before they had a chance to spread.  Law enforcement and fire officials are investigating the possibility of a potential arsonist on the loose. INVESTIGATORS SEEK ADDITIONAL VICTIMS IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On August 2, 2023, a Washington County grand jury indicted 37-year-old Antonio Arredondo on three counts of rape in the first degree, two counts of sodomy in the first degree, and three counts of sex abuse in theft first degree related to a Tigard Police Department investigation.  On August 14 th , Arredondo was indicted on another charge of sex abuse in the first degree for a separate victim in a Washington County Sheriff's Office investigation. Arredondo is currently lodged in the Washington County Jail on the warrants that stemmed from both grand jury indictments. Through the investigation and indictment process, investigators and the Deputy District Attorney assigned to the case learned of at least two other cases in Oregon involving Arredondo with similar circumstances – the Portland Police Bureau is investigating one, and the City of Dallas Police is investigating the other. EASTERN OREGON MAN CAUGHT WITH METHAMPHETAMINE AND A STOLEN FIREARM WHILE ON SUPERVISED RELEASE SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon MEDFORD, Ore.—An Eastern Oregon man with a lengthy criminal history was sentenced to federal prison today after he was arrested with more than two pounds of methamphetamine and a stolen firearm while on supervision following his release from state prison. Tom Raymond Carroll, 39, was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release. According to court documents, in February 2021, special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) identified Carroll as a drug dealer operating in Baker and Malheur Counties in Eastern Oregon. Carroll had recently been released from Oregon state prison following convictions for drug trafficking and illegally possessing a firearm. On February 20, 2021, law enforcement conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine and heroin from Carroll. DUII CRASH ON YAQUINA BAY BRIDGE IMPACTS MORNING COMMUTE

Newport Police Dept. On Thursday, August 17, 2023 at approximately 7:33 a.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to a one vehicle crash on the south end of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Callers reported a vehicle had struck the bridge railing and was blocking the southbound lane of travel. Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle, a 2018 Ford Explorer, with heavy front-end damage. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 47-year-old South Beach resident Brian Macho. Investigation revealed that Macho was northbound on Highway 101 when he drifted out of his lane, driving up onto the east side sidewalk as he drove onto the bridge, before crossing over the southbound lane of travel and crashing head on into the west side sidewalk and railing causing damage to the concrete railing. Macho was showing signs of impairment during the crash investigation and submitted to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which later indicated he was impaired. Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Hillsboro Police Dept. On August 9th, 2023, at approximately 2:30 AM, an adult male was robbed at gunpoint near Dairy Creek Park located at 517 SW 17th Avenue in Hillsboro. The victim attempted to flee on foot but was shot by the suspect as he ran, causing an injury to the victim’s face. Nearby witnesses rendered aid to the victim and the suspect fled in a vehicle. The victim was treated and later released from a local hospital. Detectives with the Hillsboro Police Department were able to identify the suspect using surveillance camera footage from local businesses and residences. On August 16, 2023, 25-year-old Daniel Morales was arrested and lodged in the Washington County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder, Assault in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Children Fall From 3rd Story Window

City of Seaside   Seaside, Ore. – August 17, 2023 –  On Tuesday August 15, 2023, at 08:51 Seaside Fire & Rescue was dispatched to two children that had fallen from a 3 rd  story window at 900 South Holladay Drive. Upon arrival, the fire department found two children, a boy and a girl under the age of 10, being held by their mother. The mother and bystanders stated that the children had fallen out the 3 rd  story window.  Both children were taken by Medix Ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria as trauma system entries due to the height of the fall.  Seaside Fire & Rescue was assisted on scene by Seaside Police Department, Gearhart Police Department, and Medix Ambulance.

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On August 16, 2023, we received a report that Ivana Lynn Balcom was missing. The reporting party stated that they last had phone contact with Balcom on July 16th, 2023 and she was in the Waldo Road/Highway 199 area of Cave Junction, Oregon. FBI - Oregon PORTLAND, OREGON  –  The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Portland Field Office and the Portland Police Bureau are asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual(s) responsible for the shooting death of 26-year-old Adrian Perdomo one year after his murder.  On August 14, 2022, Perdomo was walking past Northgate Park, located at 9415 N Geneva Avenue, Portland, Oregon, around 10pm when investigators believe he was assaulted and then shot and killed. Several casings were found near the victim. OREGON CITY POLICE DISCOVER HUMAN REMAINS IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION OF 49 YEAR-OLD KARA TAYLOR

Oregon City Police Dept. On Friday, August 11 th , 2023, the Oregon City Police Department executed a search at the Coffin Butte Landfill located at 28972 Coffin Butte Rd in Corvallis, Oregon in response to the homicide investigation into the death of 49-year-old Kara Rayleen Taylor.  After having searched for several days, investigators discovered human remains at the site, presumed to be Kara Taylor.  The remains were transported to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and positive identification.   The suspect, Jamon Peter Fritsch, has formally been indicted in Ms. Taylor’s death and is being held without bail at the Clackamas County Jail on charges of Murder II and Abuse of Corpse I.  The investigation is still ongoing.    The Oregon City Police Department would like to publicly thank Republic Services, who owns and operates the landfill, and its employees for their assistance throughout the investigation and search.  Investigators have been workin

Detectives Investigating Homicide of Oakland Woman

Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  - The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the homicide of an Oakland woman.  On Saturday, August 12, 2023, around 1:30 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers were notified of a suspicious death at a residence in the 400-block of Coltrin Lane in Oakland. Deputies and officers from the Sutherlin Police Department responded to the scene and determined the death to be the result of an apparent homicide. The victim was identified as 78-year-old Terry Lea Deane of Oakland. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated. The Sheriff's Office assigned as the lead investigating agency. Oregon State Police On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at approximately 7:05 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus bicycle crash on Hwy-164, near milepost 5, in Marion County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a bicyclist, Harley Auten (42) of Jefferson, was riding in the bike lane southbound on Hwy-164, through the intersection of Talbot Rd SE. A Dodge RAM 3500, operated by Brian Hammons (55) of Jefferson, turned from eastbound Talbot Rd onto southbound Hwy-164 and collided with the bicyclist.    The bicyclist (Auten) was transported to Salem Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.     The operator of the Dodge (Hammons) left the scene after medical personnel arrived, but prior to LE arrival. Hammons turned himself into investigators on Sunday, August 13, and was lodged in the Marion County Jail for Hit and Run and Criminally Negligent Homicide.   The roadway was impacted for approximately 4 hours during the on-scene investigation.  The investigation

LEBANON FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO BRUSH FIRE

Lebanon Fire District Lebanon Firefighters responded to a brush fire at 0130 Sunday morning in the 3100 block of Burdell BLVD. When the IC arrived, he found an approximate half acre fire burning through blackberries and grass throwing embers towards the only standing building on the old mill site. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and were able to get the fire stopped before it continued to spread through the dried brush and grass. Due to the time of day, firefighters were quickly able to bring the fire under control. Firefighters had the blaze under control in approximately 10 minutes and remained on scene an additional hour to mop-up hot spots and lay a wet line around the perimeter. Firefighters will continue to check the area during the day when temperatures heat up to make sure no additional flare ups happen. Lebanon Fire responded to the fire with 10 personnel on 2 engines, 1 ladder truck and 1 ALS medic unit, along with 1 rehab unit for firefighters and 2 chief officers.

CAR DRIVES OFF SELLWOOD BRIDGE ONTO HWY 43, MAJOR CRASH TEAM RESPONDING

Portland Police Bureau On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 2:21 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to a crash at the west end of the Sellwood Bridge. The single car crash left the car on its roof down on South Macadam Avenue. The driver was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in the car. Details surrounding the crash are limited at this time. The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation the Sellwood Bridge and South Macadam Avenue near the bridge will be closed in both directions. The closure is expected to last several hours. COMMERCIAL FIRE INCIDENT AT DOUGLAS COUNTY FOREST PRODUCTS

No.2 Douglas County, August 10, 2023 – A commercial fire at Douglas County Forest Products presented access issues to the bag house and chip bin resulting in a multi-agency response from several fire departments in Douglas County.  Fire crews addressed the situation and were able to gain access to control the fire with the assistance of the millwrights. At 0507 hrs., Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was dispatched to a commercial fire at Douglas County Forest Products off of Del Rio Rd. The fire was contained to the chip bin area, and firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. Interim Battalion Chief Doss stated, "Our firefighters responded swiftly to the chip bin fire, demonstrating patience while a safe strategic plan was implemented. SHERIFF'S OFFICE SEARCHES FOR MISSING 74-YEAR-OLD FEMALE WITH EARLY ONSET OF DEMENTIA

Sheriff's Office On August 10, 2023, at about 11:06 PM, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4100 block of Embassy Wy NE regarding a report of a missing 74-year-old female with early on-set of dementia.  The missing person has been identified, by family, as Teresita Afanador Lemus who is described as 5’06”, 130lbs with shoulder length black hair and a dark blue headband, American flag lanyard draped around her neck, yellow watch on her right hand with golden rosary, black leather jacket, black shirt, gray and black leggings, black shoes, and she is reported to be carrying two black purses. She was last seen walking around the 4100 block of Embassy Wy NE around 4:00 to 5:00 PM and left in an unknown direction of travel. ADULT IN CUSTODY WALKS AWAY FROM THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TRANSITION CENTER

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office Deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating an Adult in Custody (AIC) who walked away from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Transition Center. John West, 25, walked away from the facility around 1100-1200PM on August 10, 2023. West was in custody on charges of a probation violation, original charge was felon in possession of a weapon.    West is a white male adult, 5'08" and weighs 170 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black sweatshirt, grey pants and black shoes.      The Marion County Transition Center prepares AICs for re-entry into the community prior to release from custody. AICs are allowed to leave the facility for pre-approved treatment or medical appointments.   Deputies are asking anyone with information about West to call the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 503-588-5032.

ILLEGAL MARIJUANA GROW SITE LOCATED 08/08/23

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On August 8, 2023, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) and Josephine County Public Health & Building Safety, responded to a call for service in the 4000 Block of Fish Hatchery Road, Grants Pass. While authorities were on scene, they discovered an illegal marijuana grow site at the property. As a result of the discovery, over 2,440 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed. The property also had multiple water and solid waste code violations. These violations could result in the criminal forfeiture of the property.  The primary suspect was not at the location during the search. They will be charged with Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana if located. At the time of this press release the investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released.

Coos County Sheriff’s Office needs assistance identifying theft suspect

Coos County Sheriff's Office On August 4 th , 2023, around 5:19 pm, Coos County Dispatch received a report regarding theft from a motor vehicle at Osprey point RV Park in Lakeside. Additionally, the victim reported numerous fraudulent credit card transactions on several different cards, and that a Firefighter Challenge coin had also been stolen. Deputy M.R. Smith was able to obtain the attached photos of the suspect and we are requesting the public assistance in hopefully identifying and apprehending the individual.  If you have any information you believe would lead to their apprehension, please call the Coos County Sheriff’s Office non-emergent number; 541-396-2106
