Water Rescue - Salem

Yesterday afternoon, Salem Fire crews responded to a water rescue call on the Willamette River. A person was reported floating downriver without a life jacket north of Darrow Bar. Our rescue boat launched from Wallace Marine Park and located the individual several miles downstream. The person signaled for help, was safely brought aboard, and given a life jacket. After being monitored for medical needs, they were reunited with a family member at Wheatland Ferry.

This call occurred during an already busy shift, which was filled with other significant incidents. It's a reminder of how quickly things can turn dangerous on the water—and how crucial it is to always wear a life jacket.
