Deputies Arrest Felon Following High-Speed Elude, Drug Seizure, and Firearm Discovery

Marion County Sheriff's Office

A Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigation has resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon following a series of dangerous incidents involving a high-speed elude, illegal narcotics, and an altered firearm.

On January 12, 2026, at approximately 10:39 a.m., a Marion County Traffic Team deputy observed a teal BMW traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 271 without license plates or temporary registration, and with the driver not wearing a seatbelt. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated to speeds exceeding 103 mph, making aggressive and unsafe lane changes while eluding law enforcement. The driver was later identified as Dakota Wayne Kamna, 33, through investigative follow-up.

Less than two weeks later, on January 22, 2026, deputies conducted a separate traffic stop in northeast Salem. During that stop, a passenger fled on foot. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded .40 caliber Ruger handgun with an obliterated serial number, along with approximately 70 grams of suspected fentanyl, digital scales, and packaging materials consistent with drug distribution.

Kamna, a convicted felon, was later identified as the fleeing passenger. On January 24, 2026, deputies located and arrested Kamna without incident at a residence in northeast Salem.

Kamna was lodged at the Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Felony Attempt to Elude, Reckless Driving, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Altering a Firearm Identification Number, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.
