Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office YONCALLA, Ore. -  A Yoncalla man died in a single vehicle traffic crash Thursday evening.  On Thursday, March 9, 2023, shortly before 6:00 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a single vehicle crash in the 1900-block of Hayhurst Road in Yoncalla.  Deputies arrived on scene to find a 2012 Dodge Caravan, which had been traveling north on Hayhurst Road, off of the roadway. The driver was identified as 67-year-old John Fred Kowal of Yoncalla. Kowal was pronounced deceased at the scene by E.M.S. Kowal, the only occupant in the vehicle, was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.  Indications at the scene and from witness statements are that Kowal's vehicle had entered into the path of an oncoming vehicle in a corner when Kowal made a sharp correction and leaving the roadway. Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On March 9 th , 2023 at 1:22 p.m., Deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance with shots fired in the 500 Block of Terrace Heights Drive in Selma. While enroute, Deputies were advised a male subject identified as Ryan Gregory Vanhoy, entered the victim’s residence, pointed a firearm at the victim then fired a round into the victims refrigerator before leaving on foot back to his residence.  Both Vanhoy and the victim live in different residences on the same property.  The victim was not injured and advised Vanhoy possessed numerous weapons and body armor.  Two Deputies arrived on scene and contacted the victim.  It was at this time, Vanhoy exited his residence with a firearm and started to approach the Deputies on foot.  Based on the distance between Vanhoy and the Deputies location, the Deputies were able to tactically retreat off the property preventing a potential use of deadly for...

Sweet Home Fire Dist. A 911 call was placed just after 10 pm yesterday, reporting a house on fire in the area of 47th avenue and Main street in Sweet Home. The Incident Commander arrived on scene five minutes after that call was placed, to find heavy fire from the front of the house with smoke from every side of the structure.  The IC immediately requested a second alarm assignment, then updated the crews that there was potentially a victim still inside the home. An adult male and an adult female had escaped the fire, but reported to the IC that another adult male was still inside. The female had attempted to re-enter the home to assist that victim but was unable to reach him, she was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.  Unfortunately, the adult male victim did not survive. Oregon State Police On Thursday, March 9, 2023, at approximately 3:30 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 42, near milepost 68, in Douglas County. The preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Nissan pickup, operated by Ronald Butler (67) of Winston, lost control and crossed into the westbound lane. The Nissan crashed into a westbound Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer, operated by Scott Hayes (59) of Monroe. Butler was pronounced deceased by EMS. Hayes was not injured. Coos County Sheriff's Office On March 9 th 2023 at 10:41 a.m. a concerned citizen called the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center to report a white Jeep pulling a flatbed trailer which drove into the woods near milepost 3.5 on Transpacific Parkway  (North Spit). The reporting  party explained that the trailer appeared to be brand new, and the Jeep appeared to be severely damaged. The reporting party advised this area was also visibly marked off-limits to vehicles by way of posted signs on the side of the roadway. Deputy Mong responded to the area and located the white Jeep about 100 feet off the roadway, hidden in the brush. Deputy Mong contacted the vehicle and located Coy Smith (30) years of age from Bandon, along with his three children inside the vehicle. Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On March 9, 2023, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) with the assistance of Josephine County Public Health & Building Safety, executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of Panther Gulch Road, Williams, regarding an illegal indoor marijuana grow site. During the execution of the warrant, more than 100 pounds of processed marijuana and 1,500 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed.  The property also had multiple electrical, water, and solid waste code violations. These violations could result in the civil forfeiture of the property.  Domeniko Evtimov was taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Lane Co. Sheriff's Office UPDATE - With the help of tips from the community, Winn was located this evening in good health. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing endangered person.  23-year-old Aleha Marie Winn was last seen at her residence in the 39000blk of Ann Lane north of Marcola last night at approximately 10:00pm.  Winn is developmentally disabled and functions as a 13-year-old.  Winn is described as a Hispanic female standing approximately 5’03” and weighing about 200lbs.  She has shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. She may be wearing a light blue Captain America hooded sweatshirt.  She also may have her pet hamster with her. Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On February 28th, 2023, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit (SCU) conducted a short-term investigation into Kenneth Roy Ashbaugh for the distribution of heroin in the Deschutes County area.   Utilizing various investigative means, investigators learned Ashbaugh was distributing heroin at several houseless encampments in the China Hat area of Bend, Oregon. During the investigation, investigators determined Ashbaugh was receiving commercial quantities of controlled substances from a drug trafficking organization based out of Mexico.   SCU investigators were able to identify a storage unit Ashbaugh was renting in the Redmond area. Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for the storage unit. Portland Police Bureau On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 1:42 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to the area of Southeast 119th Avenue and Southeast Clinton Street to check the welfare of a man who was seen slumped over in a blue Ford F350. The concerned community member reportedly noticed the engine running and banged on the window, but the man was unresponsive. Officers arrived and located the truck. They could see what appeared to be a handgun in the center console and drug paraphernalia nearby. In order to decrease the chance of the driver driving off in a possibly impaired state, officers placed spike strips under the truck's tires. The officers then used sirens, air horns and a loud hailing PA system to wake the man, but were unsuccessful. The driver eventually woke up and noticed several police cars behind him. Lane Co. Sheriff's Office Lane County Sheriff’s deputies are at the scene of a home invasion robbery that occurred this afternoon in the 24000blk of High Pass Rd. west of Junction City. Deputies learned of this incident this afternoon at about 2:13pm when a man that was bleeding from the head arrived at the Junction City Police station.  The man stated that four males and one female had arrived at his residence, claiming to be from the Eugene Police Department serving a search warrant.  The suspects were wearing ballistic vest carriers that read ‘police’ on them.  The suspects were wearing masks and at least one of them was wearing a badge hanging from his neck.  Several of the suspects were armed with rifles.  One of the male suspects struck the victim with the butt of a rifle.  The suspects additionally restrained the victim with zip-ties.  The suspects are described as white males and a white female.  They were believed to be driving a gray jee...

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A federal jury in Portland found a Pennsylvania man guilty today for distributing a fentanyl analogue on AlphaBay, a former darknet marketplace, that caused the overdoses of three people in Oregon, two of whom died. Henry Konah Koffie, 37, of Darby, Pennsylvania, was found guilty on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death, one count of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in serious bodily injury, and five counts of distribution of a controlled substance. “Henry Koffie sold illicit fentanyl analogues on the darknet, exploiting profits while risking the lives of many Americans addicted to dangerous opioids. Today, fentanyl can be purchased for less than a few dollars in many American cities. U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A federal grand jury in Portland returned an indictment today charging a Hawaii man with sexually abusing two children and sharing video recordings of the abuse with others online. Benjamin Victor Houghton, 27, of Captain Cook, Hawaii, has been charged with three counts of using a minor to produce a visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse. According to the indictment, Houghton is accused of sexually abusing two children under the age of 12 on three separate occasions, videorecording the abuse, and sharing videos of the abuse online.  On two of the three occasions, Houghton is also alleged to have knowingly crossed state lines, into Oregon, for the purpose of abusing the children. On February 24, 2023, Houghton was arrested in the District of Hawaii and made his first appearance in federal court in Honolulu. He was ordered detained pending transfer to the District of Oregon. Jackson County Sheriff's Office IMET Case 23-3239 GOLD HILL, Ore. – Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) detectives raided a former licensed hemp grow last Thursday morning just after 9:00 a.m. outside Gold Hill, Ore. IMET Detectives and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies served the search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of North River Road in rural Gold Hill. While searching, IMET detectives discovered 1.8 lbs. of cocaine, $12,000 in cash, approximately 94 lbs. of processed black-market marijuana, and 998 illegal cannabis plants. On scene, IMET detectives also located 10 firearms including an illegal short-barreled rifle and one with obliterated serial numbers. The property is suspected of having connections with a drug trafficking organization. Oregon State Police An OSP Trooper was contacted by an individual who was traveling on Interstate-5 on February 10, 2023, with her three kids when, at approximately 11:00 AM, she stopped at the rest area near milepost 206. It was during that stop that she discovered her credit card was missing. The OSP Trooper was able to track down these images from video surveillance obtained from the stores in which the suspect used the stolen credit card. The suspect's vehicle looks to be similar to a 2000 GMC pickup with what appears to be aftermarket wheels.  The suspect used the stolen card at the Pilot Fuel Station and Adult Store in Rice Hill as well as the Bi-Mart and Grocery Outlet in Cottage Grove.   There was an additional attempt at an auto parts store in Springfield, but the card was declined. Coos County Sheriff's Office On March 3, 2023 at 12:38 a.m. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of shots fired in the parking lot of the Charleston Fire Department located at 92342 Cape Arago Hwy, Coos Bay, OR.  Deputy Francis was in the area and arrived on scene almost immediately. Deputy Francis located one subject shot and was instrumental in rendering life-saving aid until medical personnel arrived on scene. The other subject involved (shooter) was also on scene and had called 911 for police response after the incident. The subject who had been shot was identified as Tony J. Madrigal (37) years of age of Coos Bay. The (shooter) was identified as Lane L. Klink (55) years of age also of Coos Bay.
