Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt today announced that a grand jury returned a not true bill for the fatal shooting of PoniaX Kane Calles, 33, on July 22, 2023. Upon the conclusion of the presentation of evidence, the grand jury returned the not true bill yesterday, finding that the use of force by Portland Police Officers Justin Thurman, Timothy Hoerauf, and Seth Wingfield that resulted in Calles’ death was not criminal under Oregon law.  Previously released information regarding this incident can be found  here .  Pursuant to ORS 132.270, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office will file a motion and request that the court authorize the release of a grand jury transcript for public review. Portland Police Bureau The Portland Police Bureau teamed up with several law enforcement agencies across Multnomah County for a holiday retail theft mission that resulted in arrests and the recovery of stolen merchandise. From Friday, November 24, 2023, to Sunday, November 26, 2023, personnel from the Portland Police Bureau, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Gresham Police Department, and Port of Portland Police conducted a three-day holiday retail theft mission that was announced earlier that week ( https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ZEJ2n59i6D0 ). Oregon State Police SCAPPOOSE, Ore. 29 Nov. 2023  –  The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public's help to identify a person of interest related to a Roosevelt Bull Elk that was unlawfully taken and left to waste sometime between 5 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2023, and 7 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2023. The large bull elk was left to waste on Dutch Canyon Road near Scappoose with no effort to remove any meat. This bull was well known and considered to be part of the Miller Herd. Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office   PHOENIX, Ore. – The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET) joint inter-agency task force served a search warrant this morning at a residence in the 400 block of 5th Street in Phoenix. SOCET served the warrant after discovering numerous images of child exploitation were uploaded from the residence. Detectives are interviewing possible witnesses and involved parties, and investigations are ongoing.   SOCET was assisted by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Medford Police Department, Phoenix Police Department, and Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force (SOHTCTF).   During the warrant, investigators seized digital devices which will be forensically examined by SOHTCTF for further evidence of child exploitation. Oregon State Police On Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11:35 a.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near milepost 226, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a northbound BMW 540, operated by Andrew Chase Carlson (24) of North Bend, had a mechanical issue related to a tire when the operator lost control of the vehicle.  The BMW slid sideways into the oncoming lane and was struck on the passenger side by a southbound Kenworth dump truck, operated by Todd David Szarkowski (42) of Coquille.    The operator of the BMW (Carlson) was declared deceased at the scene.   The operator of the Kenworth (Szarkowski) was not injured.   The highway was impacted for approximately 4 hours during the on-scene investigation.   OSP was assisted by Hauser Fire and ODOT.              Click Here To Download Our App

Redmond Police Dept. Redmond, Oregon  – A Redmond woman was struck and killed as she tried to cross SW Canal Blvd. Redmond Police and other emergency personnel responded just before 5 p.m. to the reported vehicle-pedestrian crash on SW Canal Blvd. just north of SW Odem Medo Road. A preliminary investigation found that pedestrian Maria Socorro Nunez Rodriguez, 85, of Redmond, was attempting to cross two lanes of travel when she was struck by a southbound Ford pickup driven by a 45-year-old Bend man. Nunez Rodriguez sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The car’s driver was unhurt and remained on scene, cooperating with the investigation. Southwest Canal Blvd. was closed for about three hours as the Oregon State Police assisted in reconstructing the accident scene. Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) detectives have made an arrest related to the homicide that occurred on Monday November 27, 2023, on NW Russell Creek Road in rural Yamhill. Based on information obtained very early in the investigation, a local area law enforcement bulletin was sent out area wide on Monday afternoon with a description and a surveillance image of a vehicle connected to subjects involved in the homicide incident.  This information was distributed to law enforcement agencies only to preserve the potential to recover evidence relevant to the case. Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) In the evening hours of Tuesday, November 28th, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) arrested 39 year old Timothy Hobbs, of Glide, on drugs and weapons charges.     Detectives were conducting an investigation into Hobbs' activities and interrupted a suspected drug deal occurring in the parking lot of a business in the 2100 block of NE Diamond Lake Blvd in Roseburg.  With the help of officers from the Roseburg Police Department, Hobbs was detained after he drove into the parking lot.     A search of Hobbs' revealed approximately 4.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, as well as a spring assisted dagger, and a loaded .38 revolver, both concealed on his person.  As a prior convicted felon, Hobbs is prohibited from possessing the dagger, or the firearm.     A search of Dobbs' vehicle revealed approximately 26.3 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with other drug paraphernalia.   ...

Sheriff's Office REDDING, CA.  - A week after fleeing the scene of a homicide, a Riddle, Oregon man has been located and taken into custody in Redding, California.  The Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Oregon was notified that on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 10:15 a.m., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the United States Marshal's Office took 19-year-old homicide suspect Gauge Douglas James Main of Riddle, Oregon into custody. Main was located at a residence in Redding California. Main had stolen a silver 2017 Honda Civic 4-door sedan following the homicide, which was recovered in Redding late last week.  Main is suspected of killing 20-year-old Devonte Lovell Clark of Grants Pass and injuring another man. A felony warrant had been issued for his arrest for homicide. Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigations into two unrelated shooting incidents in Yamhill County.  The first incident, occurring yesterday afternoon on NW Russell Creek Road in rural Yamhill, is still an active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU).    The victim in the case is a 16-year-old from Polk County, OR.  Investigators have yet to find any connection to Yamhill County, and personnel from the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office Crime Victim Advocate’s office are working with the family of the victim.  The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with one of those wounds being fatal.   Based on the age of the victim, and the need to preserve viable investigative leads, the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.  Detectives are working those leads and when we are able, additional information will be released. Oregon State Police On Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 2:39 p.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash on Hwy 99, at the intersection with Elk St, in Jackson County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a Hyundai Elantra, operated by Melissa Dolmage (38) of Medford, was stopped on Oak St, at the intersection with Hwy 99, when it turned left onto Hwy 99 southbound. The Hyundai entered the path of a northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Kevin L. Norman (69) of Central Point, causing a side impact collision.   The operator of the Harley Davidson (Norman) was declared deceased at the scene.   The operator of the Hyundai (Dolmage) and passenger, a male infant, were not injured.   The highway was impacted for approximately 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 4:02 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducting traffic speed enforcement on Interstate 5 near Highway 217 stopped a BMW X7 going 89 mph in a 55-mph speed zone. The driver, 37-year-old Erin Rae Shaw, was arrested after giving deputies false information about her identity. Shaw later revealed her correct name, and deputies learned she had several outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant in Washington County for weapons charges and a felony warrant from the Oregon State Parole Board for identity theft.  Shaw's passenger, 39-year-old Shawn Seig, was also arrested on an outstanding parole violation warrant. During the investigation, deputies found methamphetamine in the vehicle as well as multiple laptops, thumb drives, and credit cards not belonging to Shaw or Seig. Portland Police Bureau The Portland Police Bureau’s Missing Persons Unit is looking for a missing endangered woman and anyone who sees her is asked to contact PPB. Wilma Acosta, 28, was last seen leaving a bar near the corner of Northwest Couch Street and Northwest 3rd Avenue in the early morning hours of November 26, 2023. Acosta’s cell phone was tracked to the Japanese American Historical Plaza on the west side of the Willamette River, but Acosta was not located in the area. Acosta has reportedly had suicidal ideations in the past and a history of depression. Acosta is a Latina, 5’5 to 5’6 tall, 150 lbs, and she was last seen wearing a black lace shirt, black coat, black pants, and black boots. Acosta has several tattoos on her body and three piercings on her bottom lip. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  - A Sutherlin woman died in a single vehicle traffic crash on Saturday. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, shortly before 11:00 pm, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of an injury traffic crash in the 15000-block of Highway 99N near Oakland. Upon arrival, deputies determined the driver of the 2012 Dodge Journey had been traveling south on Highway 99 before the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a culvert. The driver was identified as 52-year-old Jennifer Ann Levy of Sutherlin. Despite lifesaving efforts, Levy, who was unrestrained in the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
