One person dies in three vehicle crash on Hwy 42 - Douglas County

Oregon State Police  - 02/04/19  On Monday, February 4, 2019 at 3:31 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a three vehicle collision on Hwy 42 milepost 76 near Winston, OR. Preliminary investigation shows that a 2001 Dodge Ram PU, operated by William Dewar (85) of Roseburg, was eastbound when it struck the back of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado PU, operated by Patricia Unruh (66) of Winston, that was stopped waiting for traffic to clear. The impact pushed the Chevrolet Silverado into the back of a 1997 Dodge Dakota PU, operated by Allen Shoemaker (38) of Winston.  Dewar was transported to Mercy Medical Center and later to RiverBend Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries.  A passenger, Virginia Dewar (79) of Roseburg was transported to Mercy Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased from her injuries.  Neither Dewar was wearing a seatbelt. Investigation into "Credit Card Skimmer" Fraud At Local ATM

Lincoln City Police  - 02/04/19  The Lincoln City Police are continuing their investigation into the placing of a “credit card skimmer” on a local ATM and area asking for the public’s help in identifying a possible witness that may have information regarding the incident. Based on the investigation it appears that on 01/08/2019 a male placed a "credit card skimmer" device on the ATM at the Lincoln City branch of TLC-Fibre Federal Credit Union. A short time later another male is seen on video at the ATM before walking away. On the morning of 1-10-2019 the suspect male is seen on video at the ATM and the credit card skimmer is removed from the machine. The Lincoln City Police Department has been provided with screenshots of the second male who may have witnessed the suspect placing the skimmer on the machine or the suspect leaving the area and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this possible witness. Two People Die in Traffic Crash near North Bend

Oregon State Police  - 02/04/19 On February 4, 2019 at approximately 9:40 AM, Oregon State Police troopers and additional emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle two person fatal motor vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 231 which is approximately three miles South of North Bend. Preliminary investigation indicates at the time of the crash, the roadway was slushy and was snowing. A 1999 Ford F150, driven by Jesse Praus (age 36, male, from North Bend) was northbound in the fast lane near milepost 231 when Praus lost control of the Ford and crossed the centerline. The Ford pick-up struck a southbound 2015 Ford CMAX, driven by Susan Dixon (age 58 from North Bend).  Both Dixon and a ten year female passenger, from the Ford F150, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Hillsboro Police K-9 Locates Burglary, Theft of Firearms Suspect

Sheriff's Office  - 02/03/19  On Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 2:02 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 3000 block of SW 331st Ave in unincorporated Hillsboro. A homeowner confronted a male suspect as he was leaving the property. When confronted by the homeowner, the suspect turned over the stolen guns and fled on foot.   Deputies converged on the area and were assisted in the search by Hillsboro Police Officer Denise Lemen-Sipp and her K-9 partner, Dozer. After a ten-minute search, K-9 Dozer found the suspect hiding approximately a block away. Anthony J. Stone, 35-years-old of Hillsboro, was safely taken into custody and charged with: Burglary in the first degree Theft in the first degree (6 counts) All of the firearms were recovered by the homeowner. Mr. Stone was lodged at the Washington County Jail.

Single vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 22W - Polk County

Oregon State Police  - 02/02/19  On Saturday, February 2, 2019 at approximately 1:00 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 22W near milepost 17 in Polk County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford F-150, operated by Wilmer Post (82) of Monmouth, OR. was traveling westbound on Hwy 22W when for an unknown reason drifted into the median and collided with a highway barrier.   Post was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas Fire Department, and ODOT.

UPDATE --- One Found Dead in House Fire in Stayton

Oregon State Police  - 02/02/19  Investigators are still on scene investigating the February 1, 2019 residential fire on Washington Street in Stayton, Oregon.  Investigation was suspended late last night to resume in daylight for the safety of investigating personnel inside the fire-damaged structure. At this time, we can confirm that the one deceased in the home was a child; however, further identifying information will not be released at this time. On February 1, 2019, at approximately 3:00 PM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel were dispatched to a residential fire on Washington Street in Stayton. Once at scene it was determined there was one victim deceased in the residence. ARSON SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER STAND-OFF

Medford PD FB 2/2/19 On January 31st, 2019 at about 11:30 p.m., Medford Police officers and Medford Fire-Rescue personnel responded to a structure fire in the 2500 block of Happy Valley Drive, Medford.The fire caused significant damage to a detached garage, as well as a wood fence separating two residences. Medford Fire-Rescue were able to put out the fire before it spread to nearby residences which were occupied. Officers found a neighbor's security camera  which caught a suspect lighting the garage on fire, however the suspect's description was limited due to darkness and partially blocked views. On February 1st, 2019, detectives responded back to the address and found further evidence of arson activity on the property. The investigation led them to an occupied steel shed on the property. Mill City Man Arrest for Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse

Linn County Sheriff's Office  - 02/01/19  Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon reports that on January 30, 2019 at approximately 4:00 p.m., his detectives served a search warrant in the 1000 block of SW 2nd Avenue in Mill City.  The search warrant was a result of an online child exploitation investigation.  Leslie James Van Dolah, 53, who resides at the property, was the only person located at the time the search warrant was served.     Detectives seized numerous digital devices during a search of the residence.  Evidence indicated Leslie Van Dolah was viewing and distributing visual depictions of child pornography and bestiality pornography over the Internet.  There is no evidence indicating anyone else residing at the residence was involved in, or had knowledge of, the crimes.   Leslie Van Dolah was arrested and charged with six counts of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and three counts of Encouraging the Sexual Assault of an Animal. Religious Instructor Sentenced to 48 Months for Sex Abuse

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office  - 02/01/19 HILLSBORO, Ore.- On February 1, 2019, Washington County Judge Theodore Sims sentenced Muhammad Laftah Hasan to 48 months in prison. Hasan pleaded guilty to First Degree Attempted Sexual Abuse and Third Degree Sexual Abuse in January of 2019. The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Megan Johnson. Tigard Police began investigating Hasan in 2017 after a parent contacted officers with concerns that her daughter was abused by Hasan. Hasan was running the American Islamic Center for the Holy Qur’an in Tigard at the time, where the victim was undergoing his instruction. Detective Kevin Dresser of the Tigard Police Department began investigating the case and determined the abuse began as early as 2016. Detectives also discovered a second victim who reported similar abuse by Hasan. McMinnville man arrest on Kidnapping charges

McMinnville Police Dept.  - 02/01/19  On Friday, February 1, 2019, just before noon, McMinnville Police responded to 1501 SW Baker Street #61 McMinnville, OR on the report of an assault that just occurred.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the female victim, who is not being identified for her safety.  The officers learned that the victim was at the residence as part of her job duties and she was invited into the residence.  Once inside the residence she was attacked by the male suspect who was identified as Manuel Catano (73). Suspected Arson Fire Kills One in Stayton

Oregon State Police  - 02/01/19  On February 1, 2019, at approximately 3:00 PM, Oregon State Police and emergency personal were dispatched to a residential fire on Washington Street in Stayton. Once at scene it was determined there was one deceased victim at the scene. Marion County's HART Team (Homicide Assault Response Team) was activated to conduct the investigation. Multiple agencies responded to assist including Oregon State Police, Stayton Police Department, Turner Police Department, Marion County Sheriff's Office, Keizer Police Department and Salem Police Department. Sheriff's Office  - 01/31/19  Tonight at 8:30 p.m., deputies were alerted to a threat made on social media believed to be directed at Cascade Middle School.  Deputies are actively investigating the threat and working closely with school officials. Oregon Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Sexually Abusing Children at Orphanage in Cambodia

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon  - 01/30/19  EUGENE, Ore.—On January 18, 2019, Daniel Stephen Johnson, 40, of Coos Bay, Oregon, was sentenced to life in federal prison for repeatedly sexually abusing children who lived at an orphanage operated by the defendant in Cambodia. In a jury trial ending on May 16, 2018, Johnson was convicted on six counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place and one count each of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and aggravated sexual assault with a child. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison on each count of illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, 30 years for traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and life in prison for aggravated sexual assault with children. The sentences for engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place will run consecutively. Misuse of Text to 9-1-1 Ends in Arrest

Sheriff's Office  - 01/31/19  ROSEBURG, Ore. -  A 34 year-old Roseburg woman is in custody after misusing Douglas County's Text to 9-1-1 capabilities.  On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at 2:50 pm, 9-1-1 Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 text message from an individual stating there was a possible hostage situation in the 500-block of Orchard Lane in Roseburg. Additional messages were received by the dispatcher stating a mass murder had occurred. Deputies were able to determine the location of the person sending the messages and made contact with her. It was determined the incident being reported was false and the use of the 9-1-1 system was being misused. The person making the false report was identified as 34 year-old Nicole Rene Hall of Roseburg.  "This false incident tied up multiple resources from citizens who legitimately required services and is completely unacceptable”, said Sgt. Search Warrant with Heroin Seizure

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT)  - 01/31/19  On Tuesday, January 29th, 2019, Roseburg Police arrested 28 year old Andrew Jon McNeil of Roseburg after a short pursuit that ended in a north Roseburg neighborhood near Broad Street.  McNeil ditched his vehicle at the top of Mercy Hills Drive, then fled on foot through the neighborhood.  He was captured a short distance away, attempting to hide in the crawl space under a residence in the 100 block of Pawnee Court.  McNeil was arrested by the Roseburg Police Department and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on several charges related to the pursuit.   On Wednesday evening (01/30/2019) the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) executed a search warrant on the residence where McNeil has been living, in the 3,000 block of Hooker Road in Roseburg.  A search of the residence revealed over 2 ounces of heroin, a handgun, a large amount of US currency, and other drug paraphernalia.   McNeil remains lodged at the Douglas County Jail,

Fatal Auto vs. Pedestrian Crash

Medford Police Dept.  - 01/30/19  On January 30th, 2019 at about 2:03 p.m., Medford Police officers and rescue personnel were dispatched to an auto vs. pedestrian crash in the northbound lanes of N. Phoenix Road, just north of Barnett Road. Rescue personnel were on scene within minutes and determined the pedestrian was deceased. Medford Police Detectives and Traffic Officers were summoned to the scene. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was struck by a 1998 Peterbilt dump truck which was traveling north on N. Phoenix Road, in the far right lane. Witness accounts indicate the male intentionally ran in front of the dump truck, which struck and killed him. The pedestrian was identified as Scott Deusebio, 49 years old, who lived in the 3500 block of Michael Park Drive, which is very close to the scene of the crash. Detectives believe Deusebio committed suicide.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Medford Police Department Detective Division, 774-2230.

Suspect in Numerous Robberies Strikes Raleigh Hills Bank Again

Sheriff's Office  - 01/30/19  On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at 11:29 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a robbery at Columbia Bank, located at 4805 Southwest 77th Avenue in the Raleigh Hills community. Witnesses reported that a male approached the counter and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area but the suspect was not located. No injuries were reported. The suspect is believed to be the same person who robbed the bank on December 24, 2018. He is also believed to be the suspect in numerous bank robberies across the Portland metro area. Newport Police Dept.  - 01/30/19 On January 28, 2019, Newport Officers responded to the Starbucks on a report of a cell phone that had been found in the public bathroom. The complainant, who located the phone, described seeing images on it which were consistent with being child pornography. An additional witness at the location described the man who left the phone.  While the Newport Officer was on scene, 48 year MARTIN LAFEVER  a local transient of Newport,  who matched the witness description, entered the building and asked Starbucks staff about the cell phone he had lost in the bathroom. Employees then pointed LAFEVER out to the Newport Officer.  The Officer contacted LAFEVER who verified it was indeed his phone that had been located in the bathroom. LAFEVER claimed the phone was exclusively in his possession for the past several weeks. When first asked, LAFEVER denied any knowledge of images of children on his phone. Sheriff's Office  - 01/29/19  PROSPECT, Oregon. - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue has concluded the successful search for a downed aircraft outside of the town of Prospect. At about 6 p.m. on Monday the 28th, a 911 call was made to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon by the management of the Prospect Airport. A small experimental aircraft was thought to be missing or overdue. Corvallis Couple Charged with Criminal Mistreatment and Theft from an Elderly Woman

Sheriff's Office  - 01/29/19  CORVALLIS, Ore. – On Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at approximately 9:00am, detectives with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in Corvallis as part of a five-month, ongoing criminal mistreatment and theft investigation involving an elderly female. Patricia Lynn Mayes, 55, and her husband, Kenneth Lee Mayes, 53, were both arrested after evidence was obtained that the couple financially exploited the elderly female over more than a three-year period. Patricia initially met the victim while she was working as her caregiver with an in-home health care business in Corvallis. Patricia Mayes eventually left the home health care business and reportedly convinced the victim to hire her on as an independent caregiver. Corvallis Police  - 01/28/19 At approximately 5:00 AM on January 28th, 2019, Corvallis Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of NW 11th St and NW Buchanan Ave for woman who reported she was groped by a male while she was out walking.  The female victim was able to get away from the male by knocking him to the ground.  She immediately called 911.  Corvallis Police Department Officers arrived in the area within three minutes of the 911 call, and located a male matching the suspect description.  The male suspect was located only a few blocks away.  That male was identified as Kevin Quintero-Serrano (23 years old) of Corvallis.  Quintero-Serrano was ultimately taken into custody, and later lodged at the Benton County Jail on charges of Attempted Sex Abuse I, with a bail amount set at $100,000.  Additional investigation is ongoing.

Man arrested following pursuit in stolen U-Haul van near Salem

Oregon State Police  - 01/27/19  Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoons incident in the Salem area that resulted in the arrest of a man for multiple crimes. On January 27, 2019 at about 4:02 pm OSP dispatch was notified of a driving complaint on Interstate 5 Northbound in the Albany area.  The reporting party advised of a U-Haul van that was operating in a reckless manner.  An OSP trooper located the U-Haul and attempted to make an enforcement contact.  The operator of the U-Haul would not stop and continued northbound.  Due to heavy traffic, the OSP trooper discontinued attempting to stop the U-Haul and requested OSP personnel in Salem attempt to locate it.  A short time later, it was determined that the U-Haul was reported as a stolen vehicle.  At about 4:20 pm, OSP troopers from the Salem area located the U-Haul and observed it to still be driving in a reckless manner northbound on Interstate 5.  OSP troopers monitored the U-Haul as it c

Fire Destroys Home in Rural Washington County

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue  - 01/27/19  At 12:16 pm today, firefighters were dispatched to a fire at a single-family home in the 19000 block of Tile Flat Road in rural Washington County. Upon arrival firefighters found the home to be fully involved and partially collapsed. Due to the extent of the fire spread prior to arrival, firefighters were forced to fight this fire from the outside out of the home, also known as “defensive” mode. Crews were immediately able to begin fighting the fire. However, due to the rural setting of this home, fire hydrants were not readily available requiring firefighters to shuttle water to the scene. Additionally, the long driveway to the property required first arriving crews to lay several hundred feet of hose down the length of the driveway in order to pump the shuttled water to the fire. McMinnville Police Dept.  - 01/27/19  On January 26, 2019 at 10:54 pm McMinnville Officers responded to a shooting complaint at a residence in the 1200 block of NE 10th Avenue McMinnville, OR.  Officers found a 35 year old resident of Dayton, OR dead from a single gunshot wound.  Those on scene have been cooperating with the police and no one is currently outstanding.  There does not appear to be any danger to the public as a result of this incident.  No further information will be released at the moment. The McMinnville Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Oregon State Police, Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office.  The case remains under investigation and anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact the McMe Department tip line at 503-434-2337.

Redmond Area Arson Leads to Woman's Arrest

Redmond Police Dept.  - 01/26/19 Redmond, OR – Just before 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019, Redmond Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Oregon State Police Troopers, and Redmond Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of NE 17th Street and NE Hemlock Ave after a fire was reported to Deschutes County 911.  A large smoke plume was visible throughout Redmond as a result of the fire.  Law enforcement located the fire on vacant land owned by Deschutes County.  The motorhome was fully engulfed upon arrival of first responders.  Witnesses reported observing what appeared to be a domestic dispute between a male adult and a female adult just before the fire started.  A male was seen leaving on a bicycle, while a female left in a vehicle.  The woman reportedly went inside the motorhome after the male left, before leaving in her vehicle.  The fire is believed to have started shortly after the female left.  The motorhome is a total loss.  There are no injuries,

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/25/19  DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -  The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Division has begun accepting Text-to-911 messages in response to emergencies. Text-to-911 is a newer, important service. It is intended to benefit people that may not be able to speak due to an emergency such as a home invasion or abusive partner. Additionally, individuals that are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may benefit from the new technology. A few things you should know about how Text-to-911 works: Texting to 911 is intended to benefit people that may not be able to speak in an emergency. The key thing to remember is  “Call if you Can, Text if you Can’t”. When texting to 911 for an emergency the first   message should be the location of the emergency (including city) and the type of emergency help needed (police, fire, or medical). Daycare Worker Convicted in Child Sex Abuse Case

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office  - 01/25/19  HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 23, 2019, Washington County Judge Andrew R. Erwin found John Patrick Gilbreath guilty of one count of First Degree Unlawful Sexual Penetration. Deputy District Attorney Andy Pulver prosecuted the case. Gilbreath, who worked at the Partridge House daycare facility in Beaverton, first came under scrutiny from investigators in 2016. A three-year-old girl who was attending the daycare at the time made disclosures of abuse to her parents. The Beaverton Police Department investigated the case but didn’t have sufficient evidence to file charges at the time. Nearly two years later, another young child being cared for by Gilbreath made similar claims of abuse to her parents as well. Beaverton Police again investigated the allegations. UPDATE: STATEMENT CONCERNING VIDEO OF INDIVIDUAL RELEASED FROM DOUGLAS COUNTY JAIL

Sheriff's Office January 25th, 2019 1:25 PM UPDATE 01/25/2019 The Sheriff’s Office has reviewed the facts surrounding the incident involving the individual depicted in the video outside of the Douglas County Jail which had been posted to social media. While initially, the video appears to be disturbing, there are additional facts we feel are critically important for the community to know. Max Randol Stafford was booked into the Douglas County Jail on a charge of Criminal Trespass II on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 12:09 am. At approximately 9:15 am, Mr. Stafford was ordered to be released from the Douglas County Jail by the Winston Municipal Court. A Registered Nurse with the contracted jail medical provider attempted to speak with Mr. Stafford prior to his release. Mr. Stafford would not speak to the nurse. VEHICLE PURSUIT AND ARREST 01/24/2019

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) January 25th, 2019  On Thursday, January 24th, 2019, at approximately 3:10 PM, Detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team were in the Winston area when they observed a brown Chevy Tahoe being driven by a person they believed to be 40 year old Nathan Carey of Glide.  The Detectives knew Carey to have active felony warrants for his arrest, and requested help from the Winston Police Department.  The detectives and officers coordinated a traffic stop of the Chevy Tahoe in the 300 Block of Willis Creek Road in Dillard for traffic violations as well as the suspicion of the driver being a wanted subject. The driver failed to stop, instead speeding up in an attempt to escape capture.  The driver led officers in a pursuit that went several miles on Willis Creek Road, to East Willlis Creek Road, then through private timberland and at least one private ranch before coming back out onto approximately the 15,000 block of Hwy 99S.  The
