FIRE ON UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST TRIGGERS LEVEL 3 EVACUATIONS

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - The Sheriff's Office has issued a Level 3 "GO!" Evacuation Notice for all homes on Moore Hill Lane and for all visitors of the Bogus Creek Campground on the Umpqua National Forest. This is in regards to a fire burning on the forest, unrelated to the French Creek Fire. This decision was made in conjunction with fire officials based on an assessment of existing dangers.  Level 3 or "GO!" means: • If you choose not to evacuate, emergency services may not be able to assist you further. • Grab your "go kit" and leave immediately. • Follow your evacuation plan and stay informed. For current information, follow official sources. Fire information will be distributed by the US Forest Service - Umpqua National Forest. 

Missing Idleyld Park Man Found Alive

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - Search and Rescue crews resumed their search this morning for the Idleyld Park man who was reported missing on Sunday evening. At approximately 11:30 am, 911 dispatchers received a report that hunters had located the missing individual, Jack Allen Lawrence, in the mountains outside of Glide near Emile Shelter. The hunters reported they had given Lawrence some food and water before driving to cell service to request help. Once notified, searchers were able to arrive at the location within a short time.  Deputies learned that Lawrence had gotten his 1990 Toyota pickup high centered on a downed tree on Friday evening (09/04/2020). Lawrence had gotten out of his vehicle, but had fallen approximately 50' over an embankment. Rescue crews were able to extricate Lawrence back to the roadway where he received treatment by EMS. Evacuation Notice  for residents living on Single Tree Lane, Rivershore Drive and residents living along North Bank Road between the west side of Rivershore Drive and the Bridge  has now been issued. Level 3 or "GO!" means: • If you choose not to evacuate, emergency services may not be able to assist you further. • Grab your "go kit" and leave immediately. • Follow your evacuation plan and stay informed. "We strongly urge residents to leave their homes in the affected area as fire officials have determined there is a significant public safety risk," Sgt. Brad O'Dell said. Level 2 Notices Issued - French Creek Road Fire

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office GLIDE, Ore.  - A fire burning on private lands off of French Creek Road has caused the Sheriff's Office, working in conjunction with fire managers, to issue Level 2 "Be Set" notices for residents living on  French Creek Road, Single Tree Lane, Rivershore Drive and those living on North Bank Road near Rivershore Drive.  Level 2 or "Be Set" means: • This level indicates significant danger to your area and are encouraged to leave. If you decide to stay, be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice •    This may be the only notice you receive if conditions worsen •    Supply your "go kit" with all the essentials to last 2 weeks •    Stay connected with emergency information and evacuation routes •    Begin evacuating large animals.  The Sheriff's Office is working closely with county and fire officials and will provide additional details as they become available.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 42 - Douglas County

Oregon State Police On Monday, September 7, 2020 at approximately 12:30 A.M., Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 42 near milepost 59. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Tacoma, operated by Andrew Mendenhall (19) of Sutherlin, was eastbound when it struck a deer in the roadway and rolled several times.  Mendenhall sustained fatal injures and was pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.

KIDNAP ARREST

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 09-06-2020 at approximately 7:55pm, the Grants Pass Police responded to a report of a male subject at Riverside Park who attempted to grab an 11 year old girl while she was on a swing at the park.  The male was reported to also be following the juvenile and her mother through the park, placing them in fear for their safety.  Officers arrived on scene and detained the male while the incident was investigated.  At the conclusion of the investigation, Martin Brandon Lynch was arrested for Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree, Menacing, Harassment and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.  Lynch was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on all of the listed charges.  The case will be referred to the Josephine County District Attorney for review and filing of charges.  Based on the investigation, Lynch does not appear to be related to previous reported incidents occurring around local retail establishments.  The Grants Pass Department o

Fatal Crash on Hwy 101 - Coos County

Oregon State Police  On Sunday, September 6, 2020 at approximately 1:12 P.M., Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 101 near milepost 232. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Nissan Titan, operated by Renee Reiser (56) of Florence, was northbound when it crossed over the fog line and struck two, also northbound, bicyclists. Bicyclist Jason Dixon (42) sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Bicyclist Robert Hammonds (52) sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. OSP was assisted by North Bend Police Department, North Bend Fire and Rescue, and ODOT.

Search and Rescue Looking for Missing Idleyld Park Man

Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - Deputies and Search and Rescue crews are actively searching for a missing Idleyld Park man.  82 year-old Jack Allen Lawrence was last observed leaving his residence in Idleyld Park on Saturday, September 5, 2020, in a dark blue 1990 Toyota single cab pickup with Oregon Trail license plate 234ADZ. The vehicle has a brush bumper, white bow hunting sticker in the back window and a diamond plate tool box. He will be in the company of a white Pomeranian named "Trigger".  Deputies report Lawrence is an avid outdoorsman and is known to frequent the following locations:  Whistlers Park Singleton Road Wooded areas outside of Idleyld Park, including Apple Creek, Panther Creek, Willow Flats, Thunder Mountain and Grotto Falls Lawrence is reported to have a CB in his vehicle and monitors CB channels 9, 10 and 14.  He is described as 5'11, 285 lbs, gray hair and blue eyes. Fatal Crash on Hwy 38 - Douglas County

Oregon State Police  On Saturday, September 5, 2020 at approximately 9:40 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 38 near milepost 47. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Seth Albert (38) of Eugene,  was westbound when it collided with a Ford F150, operated by Michael Fluharty (57) of Walla Walla, that was turning to go eastbound on to Hwy 38. Albert and his passenger, Cherissa Rainwater (35) of Marcola, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased. Hwy 38 was closed for approximately 3 hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by ODOT, North Douglas Fire and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

59 Arrested During Riot In Portland

Portland Police Bureau Multiple fire bombs, mortars, rocks, and other items were thrown at law enforcement during a riot Saturday night in Southeast Portland. A crowd gathered at Ventura Park and, at about 9:00 p.m., began a march in the street toward East Portland Community Policing Center. East Precinct is an active, working police station and has been the target of arsonists, vandals, and violence in past demonstrations. It is directly adjacent to occupied townhomes and across the street from a school and a community event center. Many in the crowd were carrying large shields (photo) and dressed in protective gear including helmets, gas masks, body armor, and all black clothing. It was clear that the intent of the crowd was not peaceful protest. Therefore officers were positioned in such a way that prevented the march from reaching East Precinct. WHALE DIES AFTER STRANDING NEAR BANDON SATURDAY

Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept. Bandon, Ore. -- What has been tentatively identified as a 38' Sei whale became stranded on the Oregon coast south of Bandon Saturday afternoon, September 5. Oregon State Park rangers, the Oregon State Police, Oregon State University,  Oregon Marine Mammal Stranding Network , and representatives of the  West Coast Marine Mammal Stranding Network  and  NOAA Fisheries  responded. While alive when it first came ashore, the Sei whale was stranded by the tide and died Saturday evening. Based on its size, it was a subadult male, meaning it was not yet fully-mature. The necropsy will be led today, Sunday, September 6 by Oregon State University,  World Vets , and  Sealife Response, Rehabilitation and Research . The necropsy will allow marine mammal biologists to collect samples to try to determine what may have caused the animal to strand. The carcass will be buried on the beach shortly thereafter. Home fire fatally injures pets, displaces six in Hillsboro

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue An off-duty firefighter was the first to call 911 at 11:35 am on September 4 to report dark grey smoke coming from the windows of a home in the 600-block of SE 68th Ave in Hillsboro. Hearing smoke alarms alerting from inside the residence, the firefighter tried to make contact with the residents at the front door with no response. Within four minutes, Engine 6 from Cherry Lane station arrived to find smoke coming from an attic vent and initiated entry to attack the fire. Moments later, Engine 2 arrived and crews confirmed a working a fire. The incident was upgraded to a first alarm to bring additional units to the scene. Engine 3 arrived to assist with fighting the fire and Engine 2 transitioned to a search of the home. Firefighters from Truck 5 advanced to the roof to create ventilation to release heated gas and smoke from the home and assist in the firefighting efforts. Oregon City Police Arrest Man Following Officer Involved Shooting

Oregon City Police Dept. Just after 8:45 am this morning, several Oregon City Police Department Officers responded to the 15900 block of Moss Lake Way in Oregon City after a neighborhood resident called to report a suspicious vehicle that showed up overnight.  A Gladstone Police Department K-9 Handler also responded to assist after Officers learned the license plate displayed on the vehicle was previously reported as stolen.  Officers attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle, but he fled through the neighborhood.  During the brief encounter, the driver, identified as Craig McCarthy, intentionally rammed his vehicle into a marked police car and shots were fired by Officers.  Mr. McCarthy was subsequently taken into custody by Oregon City Officers and the Gladstone Police K-9 after a short foot chase.  He was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries stemming from the K-9 and vehicle crash.  One Officer was also transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries

Recent Wildfires in Lookingglass Area Suspicious

Douglas Forest Protective Association Fire officials with the Douglas Forest Protective Association say that two recent wildfires northwest of Winston that occurred alongside Lookingglass Road are suspicious in nature and may be related. The first fire occurred during the afternoon of Thursday, September 3rd and burned 1/2 acre of wildland fuels while the second fire burned a quarter acre of grass the following day. DFPA is conducting a joint investigation with the  Douglas County Sheriff's Office  and  Oregon State Police  to identify the responsible party. Anyone with information about either fire is asked to contact either DFPA or DCSO.

STRUCTURE FIRE (FATALITY)

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety At 4:18 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2020 the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety received several 911 calls reporting a structure fire in the SW G St area.  When Fire and Police units arrived, they located the fire at 50 SW Western Ave. The residence was fully involved with fire.  Fire personnel from Grants Pass Fire/Rescue, and Rural Metro began working the fire.  Pacific Power and Light responded to assist with live power lines that had fallen due to the fire.   As a precaution, fire crews evacuated several residences nearby. After one hour of aggressive firefighting, the fire was knocked down. During a search of the remaining structure, fire crews located human remains.  The remains have not yet been identified.  Detectives from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to assist with the investigation of the fire.  Further details will be released once the remains have been identified and next of kin has been notified.

Under Oregon Law, the Sheriff of each county is tasked with the responsibility of Search and Rescue efforts. In Douglas County that means the Sheriff is responsible for the searching for lost and missing subjects within the 5,000 square miles of the county. The kind of people we are looking for are motivated individuals willing to give their precious time to help their community. Search and Rescue is not exclusive to any particular type of person or skill set. SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY- Grants Pass

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety Between mid-August and just yesterday, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety received four complaints of suspicious activity taking place at the larger retail and grocery stores along the Grants Pass Parkway.  Each of the four complainants said they were followed by 3 or 4 men who did not appear to be shopping.  Most of the citizens reporting the suspicious behavior had their small children with them at the time, and could only describe the men as average looking and people of Hispanic origin. On Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020 police were called to similar disturbance at the Wal Mart.  A detailed investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Juan Soldevilla for Sex Abuse 3, Sexual Harassment, and Invasion of personal privacy 2.  It is believed Soldevilla was using the camera on his cellular phone to take pictures up the dress of a female shopper, otherwise known as up-skirting.  We would like to remind citizens to always be aware

REQUESTING PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING STOLEN EQUIPMENT -- DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police The Oregon State Police (OSP) is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a piece of stolen equipment from a theft that occurred south of the Canyonville along Interstate 5 in southern Douglas County.   On August 31, 2020 OSP troopers responded to a theft along Interstate 5 near milepost 96.  Troopers were made aware that, sometime between the evening of August 28 and the morning of August 31, a Toro Dingo (Skid Steer) TX1000 had been removed from a construction site without permission.    The attached pictures are the actual piece of equipment for reference.  OSP is requesting if anyone saw suspicious activity in the area during that time or knows the whereabouts of the piece of equipment to please call OSP at *OSP or 800-442-2068.  Reference case number SP20-247191 when calling with information. 

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 34 - LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On September 3, 2020 at approximately 8:11 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle collision on Hwy 34 near milepost 3. Preliminary investigation revealed a Honda motorcycle, operated by Curtis James (63) of Corvallis, was eastbound and turned left to go (north) onto Riverside Dr.  He turned into the path of and collided with a westbound Ford F-150 pickup operated by Steven Harder (54) of Corvallis.  James sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The westbound lane remained closed for approximately 2.5 hours. OSP was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and Corvallis Fire and Rescue.
