Medford Police Kidnap / Assault / Robbery On January 11th, 2022 Medford Police officers began investigating a brutal assault of a 31 year old woman. The victim suffered several facial injuries to the point her eyes were swollen shut, and had various head injuries which required stitches and staples. She had other bodily injuries as well. The woman was found by a passerby, walking on foot, asking for help, in a remote section of Salt Creek Road, at about 7:30 p.m. Detectives assumed the investigation and determined the victim had been at acquaintances’ house in the 3500 block of Cherry Lane, in Medford on January 11th, 2022. While at the home, another woman named Jordan Broussard, 18 years old, began assaulting the victim. The assault continued for several minutes. Broussard and an accomplice, Michael Hambleton, 28 years old, who lives at the residence, then forced the victim into her own vehicle against her will. HILLSBORO TEACHER PLEADS GUILTY IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE

District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 12, 2022, on the second day of his trial, Brett Howard Cunningham, age 41, pleaded guilty to first degree invasion of personal privacy and first degree encouraging child sexual abuse. Deputy District Attorneys Chris Lewman and Rayney Meisel prosecuted the case against Mr. Cunningham before Washington County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Erwin.  The defendant was employed as a kindergarten teacher at Orenco Elementary School in Hillsboro, Oregon when the Oregon Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cybertip that he was accessing child pornography from his Multnomah County home.   In May of 2020, Portland police executed a search warrant on the house and seized the defendant’s devices. He admitted they would find four images and videos depicting child pornography but claimed they were not for sexual purposes. ONLINE SEXUAL CORRUPTION OF A CHILD

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On January 6, 2022, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, United States Marshals Service, and Homeland Security, conducted a search warrant in the 9000 block of Takilma Road regarding online luring of a minor and an illegal marijuana operation. Meyer intended to meet a minor child for the purposes of a sexual relationship and to deliver marijuana to different minor.  Based on information obtained during the investigation Meyer was taken into custody and a search warrant was executed at his residence.  Christopher Meyer was arrested and lodged in the Josephine County Jail on the above listed charges. At the time of this press release, the investigation is ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

Roseburg Police Dept. On January 6, 2022 at about 7:30 PM, officers with the Roseburg Police Department, Sutherlin Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 2000 block of NW Stewart Parkway. The investigation revealed the incident stemmed from a conflict with two individuals who appear to be known to each other and there is no known ongoing threat to the public. The involved victim sustained minor, non life threatening injuries and the suspect has been taken into custody. The investigation is still active and more information will be released when available.

4 ADULTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION OF RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY, ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING, AND FENTANYL

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Or. – On December 26, 2021, at approximately 6:28 PM, the Grants Pass Police Department responded to the 200 block of NW Blossom Drive to find two victims suffering from the effects of bear spray. One of the two victims had also been struck several times by rubber bullets during an attempted kidnapping and robbery. Due to the seriousness of the crime, Grants Pass Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Neither of the victims required hospitalization for their injuries and were not randomly targeted by the suspects. With the assistance of the Medford Police Department, the vehicle used by the suspects was located in Medford a few days later. Following the granting of a search warrant, Grants Pass Police Detectives, with the assistance of the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team and Grants Pass K-9 Match, recovered approximately ¼ pound (estimated 1,400 pills) of suspected Fentanyl concealed within the vehicle. DEVANNE JOSHUA BRANDERHORST SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS IN COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION CASE

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On December 29, 2021, 23-year-old Devanne Joshua Branderhorst pleaded guilty to compelling prostitution and second degree sexual abuse. On January 6, 2022, Washington County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Proctor sentenced the defendant to a total of 70 months in prison. Senior Deputy District Attorney Allison Brown prosecuted the case against Mr. Branderhorst.  The case involved sexual assault and efforts to facilitate the prostitution of two victims, ages 17 and 18. Police first learned of the defendant’s crimes in December of 2019, after they were called to a disturbance at a house in Washington County, Oregon.  The defendant was at the residence with both victims and was providing them alcohol and prescription medication. He sexually assaulted the 18-year-old victim while she was intoxicated.  As part of the investigation, police learned the defendant was causing the 17-year-old victim to engage in prostitution. Stabbing In Myrtle Creek

Myrtle Creek Police Department On January 5, 2022 at about 4:47 PM, a call came in to the Douglas County 911 center regarding a disturbance where a male was reportedly stabbed in the leg.  The disturbance was reported to have been in the parking lot between Village Realty and Tommy’s All American Burgers, in the 100 block of South Main Street.  Officers from Myrtle Creek PD, along with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 44-year-old transient male who had a wound to his lower right leg.  The other subject, identified as a 34-year-old Tri City resident, had left the scene.  That male was later contacted by police.   EMT’s responded and transported the 44-year-old male to Mercy Medical Center with a nonlife threatening wound.  He was treated and released.   This investigation is still ongoing and active, so no further information will be released at this time.   If anyone was a witness to the altercation, we wo

Newport Police Department On January 5, 2022, Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the TLC FIBRE Credit Union, located at 1625 N. Coast Hwy in Newport, Oregon, on a report of a robbery. The suspect was described as a white male adult approximately 5’6”, thin build, with dark colored hair. He was wearing a yellow colored bandana over his nose and lower face area. The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a blue plaid colored shirt under a black jacket, with a dark colored ballcap and white tennis shoes with a dark stripe. The suspect gave a note to the bank teller that demanded all of the money be placed into a bag, which he handed her. The suspect then fled from the store on foot in an unknown direction of travel with an unknown disclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Marcos Alonso Castillo-Bernal, 46, has been charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute controlled substances, killing while engaged in drug trafficking, distribution of heroin and methamphetamine, kidnapping resulting in death, conspiracy to commit kidnapping resulting in death, hostage taking resulting in death, conspiracy to commit hostage taking resulting in death, felon in possession of a firearm, and fraud and misuse of a visa. EARLY MORNING FIRE DESTROYS UNOCCUPIED HOUSE ON HIGHWAY 228 WEST OF SWEET HOME

Sweet Home Fire Dist. A fire broke out in a house along the highway outside of Sweet Home today in the early morning hours.  A passerby called 911 reporting flames from the second story of the structure with vehicles in the driveway, at 3:43 am.  A first alarm assignment was issued for fire crews out of Sweet Home who responded with 1 engine, 1 ambulance, 2 water tenders, a ladder truck, and 3 Chief officers.  When the first unit arrived on scene, at 3:54 am, the house was heavily involved with flames 10-12 feet above the roof and venting out of the windows.  That unit took command and requested a second alarm assignment which brought a water tender, a pumper tender, and a Chief officer from Lebanon Fire, a water tender from Brownsville, and a water tender and Chief Officer from Mohawk Valley Fire.  An occupant of the property arrived on scene early and notified the Incident Commander that the structure was vacant and that he had been in the house as recently as an hour and a half prio

REDMOND KIDNAPPING SUSPECT ARRESTED AND CURRENTLY IN CUSTODY AT DESCHUTES COUNTY JAIL

  Redmond Police Dept. REDMOND, OR - On January 3, 2022, at approximately 9:09 a.m. officers with the Redmond Police Department (RPD) received a report of a kidnap in progress at the 2800 block of SW Peridot Ave.  While officers were in route to the call, the female victim was able to escape the residence.  The victim told police during the previous weeks that 27-year-old  Bernardino Martinez Jr. of Redmond, had assaulted her, strangled her, and had been holding her against her will.         On January 4, 2022, at approximately 2:11 a.m., while law enforcement was actively investigating the original kidnap, officers responded to a call at a local motel for an attempted kidnap in progress - involving the same victim and the same suspect.  Mr. Martinez located the victim while she was in front of the motel, assaulted her, stole her phone and attempted to force her into his vehicle.  Fortunately, a motel employee came to her aide and Mr. Martinez fled before police arrived.     Later on J

FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5-LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at approximately 1:50 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 220.  Preliminary investigation revealed a southbound Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by Michael Elliott (79) of Sublimity, collided with a Volvo semi tractor that was being towed. The Chevrolet tow truck, operated by Walker Farnham (26) of Eugene, is owned by A+ Towing.  Elliot was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis where he was later pronounced deceased. Farnham was uninjured.  Interstate 5 remained open to traffic.  OSP was assisted by Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Albany Medics, Halsey Rescue.

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 101-COOS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at approximately 10:58 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Highway 101 near milepost 239.  Preliminary investigation revealed a southbound Toyota 4Runner, operated by a 17-year-old of Coos Bay, struck a pedestrian that was crossing the roadway. Weather and low visibility are being investigated as contributing factors.  The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The name will be release when appropriate.  The southbound lanes of Hwy 101 were closed for several hours. OSP was assisted by Coos Bay Fire and Rescue, Coos Bay Police, Coos County Sheriff’s Office and ODOT.

Grants Pass Police Department ***Mercella Ruiz has been located safe .  Thank you***  Missing Person  GPDPS Case #2022-000545 Ruiz, Mercella Marie 5’03”, 125 lbs, Brown Hair, Brown Eyes. 13 YOA   Mercella Ruiz was last observed at her residence by her mother in their northeast Grants Pass Home at approximately 1700 hours.  She was wearing a white T-shirt and black leggings at that time.  Mercella has a history of past suicide ideations and attempts.  If seen or located, contact the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety at 541-450-6062.  

REPORTED DISTURBANCE ENDS IN FATALITY

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On January 2, 2022, at just before 7:00 p.m., deputies were called to a disturbance at a home on 45th Avenue NE near Iberis Street NE. A 911 caller reported an unknown male was trying to break into the home before a resident shot the intruder. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other reported injuries. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit have been called out to investigate the incident. Missing Woman Recovered Alive but Hypothermic on Butte Falls Highway

Jackson County Sheriff's Office SHADY COVE, Ore. - A missing 21-year-old Shady Cove woman is recovering in a local hospital after being lost in the wilderness in sub freezing temperatures overnight. The woman went missing from her residence on Indian Creek Road at 3 a.m. last night. She was attempting to find two of her dogs that went missing during the evening. She brought two of her dogs along to help locate the others but quickly became disoriented. With her dogs by her side, she walked all night long and ended up at a residence on Butte Falls Highway nine hours later. They were recovered cold and wet, but safe. Fortunately she was wearing weather appropriate clothing but still ended up in a local hospital with hypothermia. Her dogs are doing well and the missing dogs returned to her property today. Jackson County Search and Rescue (SAR) initiated a call-out for ground teams, all terrain vehicles, K9, drones, helicopter and fixed wing aircraft to search for the missing woman. Ar

GRESHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING NEW YEAR'S DAY HOMICIDE

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.—Just after 2:00pm today, Gresham Police responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 700 block of SE 187 th  ave. When officers arrived, they located a person who had died as a result of the shooting and officers quickly secured the scene and called investigators. Gresham Police detectives and members of the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team (MCT) arrived and are currently interviewing neighbors and 911 callers to determine what lead up to the shooting. Crime scene investigators are reviewing surveillance camera footage from the area apartment complexes and residents to try to identify the suspect. Oregon State Police On December 9, 2021, at approximately 7:00 P.M., Troopers from the Springfield Patrol Office responded to a report of a buck deer unlawfully killed near Upper Camp Creek Road in Springfield.  It was reported that a white male described as 5’1” tall with brown hair and a brown beard was witnessed cutting off the head of the buck.  The male fled in a late 90’s white Chevrolet flatbed diesel pickup.  The deer was donated to a local church.
