Sheriff's Office Seeks Assistance Locating Missing Man Jonathan Eli Moore

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance locating 35 year old Jonathan Eli Moore (Oakland, OR) who was involved in vehicle crash on 4/7/2020 on Row River Road (Lane County) where it is believed at least one shot was fired at Moore's 2001 Dodge Dakota.  The Dodge was located at the crash scene unoccupied, and Moore's cell phone was found nearby.  The second vehicle involved in the crash has also been located, and deputies are continuing to investigate to determine all of the details of the incident.   Moore is believed to have left the scene on foot, and damage to the Dodge indicates that Moore may have suffered injuries from the crash.  Law enforcement searched the area of the incident but have not been able to locate Moore.  Moore's family reported him as missing to Sutherlin Police Department on 4/10/2020 after not hearing from him since April 7th when he left for Cottage Grove to visit a friend. Hand Grenade Found In Otis

Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday April 17th, at approximately 4:30pm, an Otis resident called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to report finding a World War II era hand grenade in the garage of her late father’s house. The complainant told deputies she and her husband were going through old boxes belonging to her now deceased father when they found what appeared to be an intact and live hand grenade. Deputies responded to the residence and evaluated the device. Deputies confirmed the device was an original World War II era, MKIIA1 fragmentation grenade. The grenade was fully intact and appeared to be packaged in its original container. Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene and they secured the device. Oregon State Police Bomb Squad seized the device and will be conducting a more thorough investigation to determine if the grenade contained the necessary internal components to be deadly. Fatal Crash on Hwy 18 - Polk County

Oregon State Police  On Saturday, April 18, 2020 at approximately 2:47 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 18 near milepost 15.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle, believed to be an unknown color, early 2000's (possibly 2004) Dodge Caravan was westbound on Hwy 18 when it left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire. The operator was pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by Polk County Sheriffs Office, Grand Ronde Police Department, and West Valley Fire Department . As of this time the operator of the vehicle has not been identified and the vehicle registration is not able to be determined. OSP is requesting anyone who might have information on the operator or the vehicle to contact the Oregon State Police Command Center at 1-800-442-0776 or OSP and leave information for Sergeant Brad Hessel or Senior Trooper Dan Davis.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 36 - Lane County

Oregon State Police  On Friday, April 17, 2020 at approximately 5:35 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 36 near milepost 1. Preliminary investigation revealed that a tan Nissan PU, operated by a 17 year old female from Florence, was westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a blue Chevy Cavalier operated by Tara Ross (34) of Florence.   Ross sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Two juvenile females in the vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the Nissan PU was transported to the hospital with minor Injuries. OSP was assisted by Western Lane Fire/EMS, Florence Police Department, and ODOT.

Sheriff's Office responds to fatal afternoon shooting at Gold Club

Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office At 2:45 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting that had just occurred at the Gold Club, located at 17180 SE McLoughlin Blvd. in unincorporated Clackamas County. Upon arrival, deputies quickly and safely took the adult male suspect into custody without further incident. The Gold Club was not open to the public at the time of the shooting. It appears workers at the location were there to conduct remodeling or construction on the building, and based on current investigative information, authorities believe one worker fatally shot another. Clackamas Fire District No. 1  and A merican Medical Response  also responded to the scene. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival. Detectives  from the Sheriff’s Office  Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit  responded to the crime scene, along with  Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) , the  Clackamas County District Attorney

Government (Douglas County, Ore.)  The sunshine is abundant and everyone is anxious to get outside, but we want to remind our residents that the stay home orders from the State of Oregon are still actively in place.  While it appears that things are slowing down, the fact is that the COVID-19 crisis is far from over.  The great work we are all doing in staying home is having an impact on slowing the curve for spread of the virus in our county and our state.   Please keep up your valuable stay ‘homework’!   We will continue to encourage residents to follow the ‘Stay Home, Save Lives’ guidelines, that includes the please stay home, seek medical care if you are sick, wash your hands frequently, cover your coughs, limit travel to necessary trips and maintain a healthy lifestyle messaging.  Local COVID-19 Test Results As of 12:00 pm, April 17, 2020, there are no new cases of COVID-19 reported in Douglas County. Government (Douglas County, Ore.)   We have received a lot of questions about hospitalization and what the capacity is for our residents and those around Oregon during the COVID-19 crisis.    We hope this information will help with those questions.  Of the 23 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Douglas County, five people have required hospitalization at various hospitals, and only two of those patients remain hospitalized, as of today.  Mercy Medical Center has created a special COVID-19 unit in a separate building that has 30 patient rooms. The unit also includes six ICU beds, which is in addition to Mercy’s 16 regular ICU beds. Due to the relative low number of cases, the wing has yet to be utilized. “It’s available and ready to go if we need it,” hospital spokeswoman Kathleen Nickel said. Motorcyclist Killed After Striking Semi-Trailer

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office April 16th, 2020, at approximately 7:00 am, a 911 call was received reporting a serious motor vehicle crash in the 13000 block of Ehlen Road NE, in northern Marion County. It was reported a motorcyclist had collided with a trailer being towed by a semi-tractor and the rider had sustained significant injuries. The motorcyclist did not survive the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the involved semi-tractor was not injured. Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Team responded to the scene. Crash scene investigators learned the semi-tractor was traveling eastbound on Ehlen Road NE while pulling two empty flat-bed trailers. The motorcyclist was also traveling eastbound and struck the back of the rear trailer at highway speeds. Arrests Made in Homicide Investigation

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office CENTRAL POINT, Ore.  The  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has announced two arrests in a homicide case from January this year. The investigation began on the morning of 011020 when  JCSO was dispatched to a report of  a deceased person along the roadside on Cobleigh Road near Butte Falls. The victim was later identified as Cody Joseph Baize, 28 years old, of Grants Pass, Oregon. The case was  investigated by the Jackson County Major Assault Death Investigation Unit. Further investigation over the last 3 months lead investigators to arrest Joshua Wayne Bull, 32, of Grants Pass, Oregon and Theodore Stacey Johnson, 33, of Grants Pass, Oregon  They are both lodged at Jackson County Jail  for the crimes of Murder in the Second Degree, Kidnapping in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Suspect Arrested in Kidnap / Sexual Assault

Medford Police Dept. On April 14, 2020 at 10:30am a female victim reported she had been abducted and sexually assaulted by an unknown male who threatened her with a knife.  The assault took place during daylight hours in the 3000 block of Crater Lake Avenue. During the assault, the suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and debit card before fleeing the area on foot. Investigators worked to identify the unknown assailant and a search of the crime scene provided evidence of the assault. On April 15, 2020, detectives located video surveillance from a local business which visually identified the suspect as he attempted to use the victim’s debit card. Additional information from Jackson County Parole and Probation led investigators to a possible suspect who matched the victim’s description and the man identified in the surveillance video. Eugene Police Department On April 6 at 10:32 p.m., a suspect robbed Buy 2, 1809 W. 6th Avenue of merchandise and he wielded a machete at store employees during this. He fled south bound on Grant Street, riding a bicycle and with the merchandise. The suspect is described as a white male, late 30s to 40s, with a medium build and height. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket, black pants, black shoes, a red and black beanie with sunglasses on top, and black gloves with skeleton fingers. His bicycle was grey or dark colored. It involves a lone suspect wielding a machete at store employees. Any information on the suspect’s identity can be forwarded to Detective D. Douglas County Major Crimes Team Investigating Fatal Fire in Reedsport

Oregon State Police  On Sunday, April 12, 2020, 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a structure fire at 830 Myrtle Ave. Reedsport Fire Department responded to the incident along with the Reedsport Police Department. When officers arrived, they were notified an individual was still inside of the home. Officers entered the residence and located 68-year-old Joseph Lee Shoemaker, who was determined to be deceased. The other residents were able to safely leave the home. Reedsport Police Department requested the assistance of the Douglas County Major Crimes Team in conducting an investigation, with the Oregon State Police assigned as the lead investigating agency. CANYONVILLE SHOOTING INCIDENT 04/15/2020

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office CANYONVILLE, Ore.  - A Murphy, Oregon man was safely taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a several hour standoff with law enforcement.  On April 15, 2020, 9-1-1 dispatchers began receiving multiple reports around 9:48 am, of a man who was firing several rounds outside of a residence in the 400-block of SW Fourth Place. Several law enforcement officers with various agencies responded to the incident.  A citizen notification was made to area residents asking them to stay inside their homes and lock their doors. Interstate 5 was reduced to 1 southbound lane during the incident as well.  The man shooting was identified as 23-year-old Cedar Cascade Higgs. It was reported that Higgs was observed with at least two firearms; a handgun and a rifle.  Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Tactical Response Team and the Crisis Negotiations Team also responded and tried to negotiate with the man.  At approximately 3:45 pm

Prolific Car Thief in Custody After Trying to Elude Deputies

Sheriff's Office DRAIN, Ore.  - A prolific car thief is lodged in the Douglas County Jail this evening after stealing a vehicle and attempting to elude deputies early Wednesday morning.  40-year-old Thomas Ivan Grimes of Eugene was observed by a Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy at 1:54 am, Wednesday morning driving a 2004 GMC Sierra Pickup on Goodrich Highway near John Long Road in Rice Hill. The vehicle had previously been reported as stolen to the Roseburg Police Department.  The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, at which point Grimes attempted to elude them. Grimes eventually crashed the vehicle in 7000-block of Eagle Valley Road and ran from the scene.  Deputies identified a residence where Grimes had run to hide and surrounded it. Shortly after 9:00 am, Grimes surrendered and was taken into custody.  He was lodged at the Douglas County Jail on the following charges:  Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle Attempt
