SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING ROSEBURG MAN NEAR TWIN LAKES

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.   - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is continuing search efforts in the Twin Lakes area for a missing Roseburg man.  69 year-old Harry Burleigh was reported missing at 10:15 pm on Friday, May 7, 2021 after he failed to return home from a camping trip in the Toketee area. Burleigh was originally due to arrive home on Thursday, May 6, 2021, but failed to do so.  Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue was dispatched to begin searching for Burleigh. On the morning of Saturday, May 8, 2021, Burleigh's vehicle was located at the lower trailhead to Forest Service trail 1500, which leads into Twin Lakes. Burleigh, a fisherman, is believed to have attempted to walk into the lakes to fish before going home.  Search efforts continue today, Sunday, May 9, 2021, with additional search and rescue resources from other counties assisting.  Burleigh is described as a white male adult, 6'2'' tall, weighing at 175l

DCSO JAILVIEWER Officer was at the Rodeway Inn on a separate investigation when the officer noticed a motel door wide open. Officer was in the parking lot and saw Tabitha sitting on her bed putting a crystal like substance in a clear baggie and using a scale to weigh it. Officer contacted Tabitha and believed she was selling small amounts of methamphetamine and that she had half an ounce on the bed. During a search, the officer located approximately 46 grams of methamphetamine, money, scales and packaging material. FIRE BURNS MOBILE HOME IN WINCHESTER

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 A mobile home is considered a total loss after a fire broke out Tuesday afternoon.    The fire was reported at 3:23 p.m. on Clarice Lane in the Winchester area of Roseburg. Firefighters with Douglas County Fire District No. 2 arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a single wide mobile home.  The homeowner had exited the building and told firefighters she woke up to fire coming from the kitchen area.   Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the fire and keep the fire from spreading to other nearby mobile homes. The fire was reported under in control within 20 minutes and no injuries were reported.  The American Red Cross was requested to assist one adult and several pets displaced by the fire.  Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the incident with 13 firefighters including 3 engines and 1 command vehicle.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE - HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On March 24, 2021, investigators from the Josephine County Major Crime Team, which consists of the Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office began a homicide investigation of Paul Folk and Daniel Hill. On May 3, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Michael Moehring was arrested in Linn County on a warrant related to the double homicide investigation. Law enforcement officers from the Eugene Police Department, The US Marshall’s Office, and the Oregon State Police SWAT contacted Moehring in a rest area and he was taken into custody without incident. The investigators from the Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police Department, and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office are appreciative of the great work everyone involved did to ensure the safe arrest of Moehring. KLAMATH FALLS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CASHING MORE THAN 40 YEARS' WORTH OF DECEASED RELATIVE'S SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon MEDFORD, Ore.—A Klamath Falls, Oregon man pleaded guilty today after cashing more than $458,000 worth of social security checks issued in the name of his deceased aunt. George Doumar, 74, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government funds. According to court documents, in February 2020, the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Office of Anti-Fraud Programs identified a 114-year-old supercentenarian who appeared to be the second-oldest living person in the U.S. receiving Social Security retirement benefits. The last known update to the recipient’s SSA benefit record was in July 1989, when the recipient’s address was updated to Frontier Parcel & Fax Service on S. 6th Street in Klamath Falls. In March 2020, an investigator with SSA-OIG interviewed two of the benefit recipient’s nieces. Both nieces claimed that their aunt died in the 1960s or 1970s and recalled attending her funeral in Brooklyn, New York, where she had reportedly

FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5- JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Monday, May 3, 2021, at approximately 2:53 A.M., Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a pedestrian lying in the median of Interstate 5 near Medford in Jackson County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was in the middle of the roadway for unknown reasons and was struck by a passing semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck was on scene and cooperative with the investigation. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel. His name will be released when appropriate.  Interstate 5 was reduced to one lane for crash reconstruction. OSP was assisted on scene by Medford Fire, Mercy Flights, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.

ATTIC FIRE QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED SOUTH OF DILLARD

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 A fire originating near a furnace quickly spread to the attic of a home early Monday morning, displacing three people and two dogs. The fire was reported at 7:16 a.m. in the 11000 block of Old Highway 99 South. Firefighters arrived to find an active fire burning the attic.  Firefighters were able to quickly make access to the attic by cutting several holes to extinguish the fire.  Firefighters remained on scene to completely overhaul the attic and make sure no fire remained.  Several rafters in the attic were severely burnt. The fire was reported under control within 25 minutes and no injuries were reported.  The American Red Cross was requested to assist the three adults and two dogs.  Winston Dillard Fire District and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the incident with 3 engines, 1 water tender, and 2 command vehicles.  Crews were also assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5 - DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Saturday, May 1, 2021 at approximately 3:30 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 160. Preliminary investigation revealed a Dodge Pickup, operated by Matthew Wignall (60) unknown home address, left the roadway, traveled through the brush, and down an embankment. Wignall sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. A Pitbull was injured and taken to Bailey’s Vet Clinic for treatment. OSP was assisted by North Douglas Fire, and ODOT.

CHINA HAT ROLLOVER CRASH

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On April 30, 2021, at about 7:23 p.m., deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on USFS Road 1815 near China Hat Rd.  Responding deputies arrived and found a Black 2004 Toyota pickup truck on its side after apparently rolling over several times.    The initial investigation determined the vehicle was northbound on USFS Road 1815 at a high rate of speed for the conditions.  The driver lost control of the vehicle as it fishtailed and then rolled over several times.   The vehicle was occupied by five juvenile males ranging in age from 15 to 16.  Three juveniles were in the cab of the pickup, and two juveniles were riding in the bed of the pickup.  The two juveniles in the bed of the pickup were thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over.    Bend Fire Department personnel responded and treated several juveniles for injuries.    Three of the juveniles were transported to the emergency room at St. Charles

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION NEAR TURNER

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday, April 30th, 2021, a few minutes after 12:30 p.m., deputies were called to the report of a head-on collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Turner Road SE near Ahrens Road SE.  Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office CRASH team responded to lead the investigation.  Initial information at the scene indicates a green Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Turner Road when it went into the oncoming lane, striking the motorcyclist.  The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as Wayne Laird, 66, of Scio.  The next of kin have been notified, they are requesting no contact from the media. The driver of the Honda Accord remained on scene following the crash, they were not injured.  The name of the involved driver is not being released at this time. Turner Road was closed to traffic for approximately 4 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene of the crash.
