Lincoln County K9 Nix captures suspect in Tillamook County vehicle pursuit

Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office On March 12, 2019 at approximately 6:55 PM the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was notified that our neighboring law enforcement partner to the north, Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, had been in a vehicle pursuit where a male driver led deputies on a pursuit into a small rural neighborhood of Beaver, OR. The driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office requested Lincoln County’s K9 team to assist with tracking and apprehending the suspect. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Derick Smith and his K9 partner Nix responded to the area of Blaine Rd and River Bend Rd. to assist Tillamook County Sheriff's Deputies. At 7:40 PM, Nix began her track at the location the suspect was last seen. K9 Nix began tracking down the north side of the Nestucca River. This track went along the river, through neighboring yards and over fences. After approximately one quarter mile of tracking around 8:30 PM, Nix alerted

Task Force Arrests Attempted Murder Suspect

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office MEDFORD – A man wanted for attempted murder in Fortuna, California, is now lodged in the Jackson County jail.  Local members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force (PNVOTF) arrested Derek Ray Johnson, 24, on Tuesday.  Just after noon on March 12, 2019, PNVOTF officers attempted to contact Johnson at a residence in the 3000-block of Sheraton Court.  Johnson initially attempted to flee the through a back door, but was met by waiting task force officers.  He was taken into custody without further incident.  Johnson was lodged in the Jackson County jail on a no-bail fugitive warrant for attempted murder.  Officers from the Medford Police Department assisted at the scene. Officer-involved Shooting near 15th and High

Eugene Police Department 3/13/19 At 3:57 a.m., March 13, an officer performed a person stop on two suspicious males at 15th and Pearl Alley. One suspect fled and the officer pursued on foot. Another officer arrived on scene to find the second suspect stealing the first officer’s patrol vehicle. Shots were fired by the second officer. The stolen patrol vehicle was located a short time later unoccupied at 15th and High Street. A Springfield K9 search located the sus pect and he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Both suspects have been detained and are no longer a threat to the neighborhood. No individuals to include the public, involved officers or the suspects were injured in this incident. The roadways are closed at 14th and Pearl and 16th and High Street. Travelers are asked to avoid the area. The closure is estimated to last until at least mid-morning. Roseburg Police Dept.  - 03/10/19  On March 9, 2019 at approximately 1800 hours, the Douglas County Communication Center received a call containing information regarding a possible stolen vehicle observed at Love’s Travel Stop, located at 280 Grant Smith Road.  The vehicle was reported stolen to the Eugene Police Department on March 7, 2019.  The stolen vehicle reportedly contained multiple weapons and ammunition, to include a semi-automatic rifle. Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police responded to the area and located the vehicle as it was leaving Love’s Travel Stop.  Law enforcement attempted contact and the vehicle fled the area, and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.   Officers pursued the vehicle to a nearby ranch property where the stolen vehicle became stuck in a field. Oregon State Police On Friday, March 8, 2019 at approximately 7:00 P.M. the Douglas County Sheriff's Office took a report of an overdue motorist.  The husband and wife, identified as Frank Braudt (76) from Canyonville and Marcia Braudt (75) from Canyonville, had left the Reedsport area, shortly afternoon 12:00 noon,  and were enroute to the Canyonville area. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office began actively searching for the couple to include the use of Douglas County Search and Rescue.  On Saturday, March 9, 2019 at approximately 12:20 A.M. members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle on Hwy 38 near  milepost 31. The vehicle had traveled over an embankment and was out of view of passing motorists. Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Elkton Fire Department, and North Douglas Ambulance extricated the couple and provided medical aid.   Despite lifesaving efforts Marcia Braudt was critically injured and was pronounced deceased. Woman Arrested for Stealing Truck, Crashing Into River

Tualatin Police Dept. On March 8, 2019 about 12:49 AM Tualatin Police received a suspicious person call of a woman knocking on a door of a home in a residential area of the 5300 block of SW Sequoia DR.  As officers responded to the area the caller notified dispatch the suspicious female had stolen a pickup truck from a neighbor behind her property.  The truck damaged a fence and left the area toward SW Borland Rd.  Officers located the 2006 Ford F-250 truck a few minutes later on SW Stafford Rd in Clackamas County.  The driver proceeded to Interstate 205 northbound and failed to yield to the officers who had activated the lights and sirens on their patrol vehicles. The pursuit continued northbound on Interstate 205 to exit 9 in Oregon City where the truck exited the freeway.  The truck continued into Jon Storm Park which is a dead end street ending at a marina on the north shore of the Willamette River.  The truck drove down an embankment and into the river where the driver

One person dies in two vehicle crash - Linn County

Oregon State Police  On Thursday, March 7, 2019, at approximately 5:45 A.M.  Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle serious injury crash on Hwy 34 near milepost 6. Preliminary investigation shows that a silver Hyundai Elantra, operated by Todd Allison (48) of Albany, was eastbound on Hwy 34 when the vehicle lost control on icy roads.  The Hyundai slid across the west bound lanes and collided with a black VW Jetta, operated by Chelsea Tharp (31) of Lebanon, who had driven to the shoulder in an attempt to avoid the Hyundai.  Allison was transported by air to OHSU where he died from his injuries on Friday, March 8, 2019. Tharp was not transported for injuries. OSP was assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, local Fire Departments, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. 

Sheriff's Office seeks tips in search for missing Milwaukie-area man Daniel Tonge

Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help as it searches for a missing Milwaukie-area man. On or about Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, 31-year-old  Daniel Tonge  reportedly left his residence at 3520 SE Vineyard Road in Milwaukie to go to work and never returned. He has not been seen or heard from since leaving the residence. Mr. Tonge's roommate notified family members about his disappearance, and family members contacted the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Tonge did not tell anyone he was traveling to any specific location -- though he reportedly enjoys fishing and the outdoors, especially at Mt. Hood by Fish Creek, Timothy Lake, Harriet Lake and Hagg Lake. His family has grown increasingly concerned for him, as this disappearance is reportedly out of character for him. Former Youth Pastor Sentenced on Child Sex Abuse Charge

District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 7, 2019, Ryan Christopher Mutchler was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to one count of Second-Degree Online Sexual Corruption of a Child. Judge Charles Bailey issued the sentence. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Allison Brown and investigated by Beaverton Police Detective Chad Opitz. The 31-year-old defendant was a youth pastor at Mountain Park Church and a band teacher at Aloha High School. The charges involve a 14-year-old child he met at a church camp in the summer of 2018. He befriended the child and began communicating with her. His text messages were sexual in nature and he suggested meeting up with the child to engage in sexual activities. The child’s parents became concerned after noticing several red flags. They spoke with the child and immediately contacted police to report the defendant. Former Church Employee Sentenced in Felony Theft Case

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 7, 2019, Judge Oscar Garcia sentenced Scott Edward Moore to 48 months in prison. Moore pleaded guilty to three counts of First-Degree Aggravated Theft in January of 2019 after investigators determined he stole more than $490,000 from his employer, an area church. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney William Stabler. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office first began investigating Moore in March of 2018 after leaders at the Village Baptist Church in Beaverton contacted them to report a possible case of fraud involving church credit cards. As investigators began looking into the case, the church hired an outside forensics accounting firm to review their finances. They discovered Moore, who served as the church’s Operations Manager for several years before moving to Texas, had used three different church credit cards to make personal purchases totaling $490,452. Nordic Skiers Rescued On Metolius Windigo Trail

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On 03/06/2019, at about 5:24pm, Deschutes County Dispatch received a broken 911 call from a male who advised he was cross country skiing on the Metolius Windigo Trail after beginning at Mt Bachelor. The call was dropped when the male said something about broken equipment.  Dispatch was able to provide coordinates for the phone location with an accuracy of 121 meters. The call was made from a cell phone that did not have cellular service, was able to call 911, but not able to receive calls or texts. Dispatch was not able to obtain the name of the caller and other pertinent information. The coordinates placed the location of the call in the Happy Valley area about 3.75 miles NW of Tumalo Falls. Two DCSO Deputies and three DCSO Search and Rescue Volunteers immediately began planning best access routes to the skier’s location.  Additional DCSO SAR Volunteers were called out to begin their response for the rescue mission.  At about 8:09pm six DCSO SA

Residential Structure Fire - 953 SE Main St. - 3-7-19

Roseburg Fire Department At 12:03 PM on March 7, 2019, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported structure fire at 953 SE Main St.  Upon arrival at the residence, firefighters found the sole occupant of the home standing on the front porch with a passerby who had heard her calling for help.  The resident, a 77-year-old female, had sustained minor burn injuries, and was transported to Mercy Medical Center via ambulance for evaluation. When firefighters entered the home, they located and quickly extinguished a smoldering fire in the upstairs bathroom.  It appeared the resident had attempted to extinguish the fire prior to exiting the home, and had received her injuries in the process. A total of eleven firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Avista, Roseburg Police Department, and Pacific Power.  A fire investigator was on scene and investigating the cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental i

Subject Arrested regarding negligent discharge of firearm, Yachats, Or.

Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office On February 27, 2019 at approximately 7:00 P.M. Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of suspicious activity near 2nd St. in Yachats, Oregon. Initial dispatch information reported the possibility that a bullet passed through a residential living room window. Shortly after arrival deputies determined a bullet had in fact penetrated the double pane exterior window of the residence. At approximately 9:00 P.M. Deputies were able to locate the source of the shot tracing the trajectory to a nearby residence. Deputies contacted the subject inside the neighboring residence identified as Terry L. Brown. During the course of the investigation it was determined the round was discharged in negligence, Mr Brown was subsequently taken into custody. Mr Brown was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with Unlawful use of a Weapon, Recklessly Endangering, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree. Bail for Mr Brown

PPB Arrests Erratic, Armed Male Near School in Southeast Portland

Portland Police Bureau On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, Central Precinct officers responded to an emergency call near Hosford Middle School in the 2300 block of Southeast 28th Place. Multiple callers reported seeing an agitated male who was yelling and appeared to be armed with a hatchet. Additionally, the male was taking his clothing off. Hosford Middle School was placed into lockdown as a precaution.  Officers arrived and contacted the male who was armed with a hatchet and knife. Officers gave direction to the male, who threw the hatchet and knife down, then charged at the officers. The male was arrested and during the arrest, he stabbed a Sergeant with a smaller knife that was concealed in his hand. The Sergeant sustained a non-life threatening injury to the hand. The Passing of Retired Sheriff Norman B. Neal

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office   It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Retired Sheriff Norman Neal at the age of 83. He passed on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.  Sheriff Neal dedicated his professional life to public service. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. At 21, he served both with the Roseburg Police Department and as rural fire department volunteer.  As such, he was a first responder in the 1959 Roseburg Blast where a truck carrying a two-ton load of dynamite and four and one-half tons of ammonium nitrate blew up and leveled 8 city blocks.   A few years later, in 1963, Neal was sworn in as a Deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.  Norm, along with (retired) Sheriff John Pardon, established the local SAR program.  Neal was also a founding member of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.  He was promoted through the ranks during his long career, holding positions as both Sergeant and Lieutenant.  In 1981, Norm was elected to his first four-year

Two Men in Custody After Burglary (Silverton)

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office Two men are in custody after a late afternoon burglary, in large part to a quality alarm and video system and a little luck.  Lawrence Hammond, age 33 and Eugene Schott, age 53 are under arrest and being taken to the Marion County Jail. At 1:30 p.m., today, a resident in the 2600 block of Drift Creek Road NE called to report a male had just broken into his home.  The resident had a camera with a live feed and an alarm that alerted him to the break in.  The resident in turn called deputies with the Sheriff’s Office who responded to the scene.  By the time the deputies arrived the suspects were gone.  Through the video deputies captured quality images of the vehicle and a suspect.  A short time later, deputies located the vehicle in the 8800 block of Silverton Road NE and arrested Hammond and Schott.   Hammond and Schott will be lodged at the Marion County Jail for the crime of Burglary I.  Booking images are from previous arrests

Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced to 400 Months in Prison

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 6, 2019, Judge Oscar Garcia sentenced Daniel James Campbell to 400 months in prison. Campbell pleaded guilty to two counts of First-Degree Sodomy and one count of First-Degree Sex Abuse earlier this week. Deputy District Attorney Andy Pulver prosecuted the case against Campbell. Campbell’s close friend sexually abused the victim when she was 11-years-old. Campbell was involved in the prosecution of his friend and even provided a victim impact statement at sentencing in which he described the friend as a “monster” who caused the victim to lose her innocence. In 2016 Campbell himself began abusing the then 13-year-old victim. The abuse began with fondling and inappropriate touching but escalated severely over the years. In 2018, the victim reported the abuse to her mother who then confronted Campbell with the allegations. Campbell denied the allegations and convinced the victim to recant. The victim did so

Hillsboro Woman Sentenced to 151 Months in Prison in Child Torture Case

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 6, 2019, Washington County Judge D. Charles Bailey sentenced Merlinda M. Avalos to 151 months in prison. Avalos pleaded guilty to six counts of First-Degree Criminal Mistreatment in January of 2019 based on abuse and neglect toward three young family members. Deputy District Attorney Marie Atwood prosecuted the case against Avalos. Hillsboro Police began investigating Avalos in April of 2018 after one of the children made disclosures of abuse to a school counselor. Detectives and experts from CARES Northwest interviewed the three children—ages 12, 10 and 9 at the time—and found extensive evidence of ongoing abuse. Avalos had been caring for the children at the time of the incidents. Investigators found she had abused them in a number of ways. She administered physical beatings, used sleep deprivation as a form of punishment, fed them minimal amounts of food and forced them to use jugs to urinate in rather t

Child Rapist Sentenced to 600 Months in Prison

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 5, 2019, Washington County Judge Janelle Wipper sentenced Jose David Satey-Sanchez to 600 months in prison. Satey-Sanchez was convicted of 13 counts of sexual-abuse related crimes in February of 2019. Of the charges, eight were tried before Judge Wipper and five were tried before a jury. Deputy District Attorney Andy Pulver prosecuted the case. Law enforcement first began investigating Satey-Sanchez in 2014 when a nine-year-old child made disclosures of abuse to her mother. Her mother didn’t believe the allegations and never reported them to police. However, a teacher overheard the victim talking about the crimes and alerted authorities immediately. When the victim’s mother refused to make Satey-Sanchez leave the home, authorities were forced to place the girl in foster care. In 2015 the girl recanted the allegations at the encouragement of her mother and was returned to her mother’s custody. Satey-Sanch

Forest Grove Responds to Residential Burglary

Forest Grove Police On March 6th, 2019, at about 9:53am, Forest Grove officers with the assistance of the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Beaverton Police Department responded to the 1000 Block of Willamina Avenue for a residential burglary. Upon arrival officers made entry into the residence and located one adult male subject who was not responsive. The subject was later transported to an area hospital. An extensive K-9 track was conducted in the area without success. Officers were able to recover video surveillance of a dark colored SUV in the driveway of the residence about one half hour before police were called. Officers are trying to identify the vehicle and are asking anyone with information to contact the Forest Grove Police at 503-629-0111  This is a developing situation and there is no further information at this time.

Cross Country Skier Rescued at Virginia Meissner

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On 3/5/19 at about 1:47 PM, Deschutes County dispatch received a 911 call from Stewart Allen, who stated he and his wife Susie Allen had been cross-country skiing at Virginia Meissner Snow Park when Susie began experiencing a potentially life-threatening medical issue. Stewart reported that he and Susie were about a mile and a half from the parking lot but could go no further due to Susie’s condition.   Based on this information, one Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and five Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Volunteers responded to the scene with snowmobiles and SAR’s snow ambulance. SAR Volunteers made contact with Susie at the Meissner Shelter where they first tended to her and then transported her to the parking lot via snow ambulance. Bend Fire then transported Susie from the snow park to St. Charles Bend via ground ambulance for further treatment. An air ambulance was initially contacted for patient transport but

Woodburn Man Pleads Guilty for Role in Counterfeit ID Scheme

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—Miguel Merecias-Lopez, 24, of Woodburn, Oregon, pleaded guilty today to one count each of conspiracy to produce false identification documents and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, from a time unknown until September 21, 2017, Merecias-Lopez and other co-conspirators were part of a Oaxaca, Mexico-based criminal conspiracy to produce and sell fraudulent U.S. government documents. Conspirators, including Merecias-Lopez, maintained a clandestine photo lab in Woodburn where they used various computers, scanners, laminators, digital cameras and a high-resolution printer to produce the fraudulent documents. They would communicate with customers in-person and electronically via email, Facebook and Snapchat, and receive payments via PayPal, U.S. mail or in person. Former Oregon State University Student Sentenced for Threatening Campus Shooting

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon   EUGENE, Ore.—Christopher Adam Strahan, 33, of Corvallis, Oregon, pleaded guilty today to threatening a campus shooting and was sentenced to time served in federal prison and three years’ supervised release. According to court documents, on February 27, 2018, the Director of Public Safety for Oregon State University (OSU) was notified of Twitter posts threatening a campus shooting at OSU. A request to Twitter revealed the account in question, “Hard Belly Dorm,” was owned by Strahan. A detective from Oregon State Police (OSP) positively identified Strahan from the account’s profile photo. The detective was familiar with Strahan from an investigation in February 2017 for similar threats to OSU. Later on February 27, a 911 tip produced a possible residential address for Strahan. OSP and FBI responded to the address in an attempt to locate him. While at the address, Strahan arrived in his own vehicle, was arrested and transported to th

Eugene Police and Lane County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Man in Rape Cases

Eugene Police Department At 6:30 a.m., today, March 5, Eugene Police and Lane County Sheriff’s Office took Rickie A. Miller, age 32, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, into custody without incident during a traffic stop at Willow Creek. He has been charged with three counts of Rape in the First Degree, two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, two counts of Kidnap, Strangulation in the First Degree, Menacing in the First Degree, Assault  in the Fourth Degree. Both agencies had sexual assault reports by three unrelated victims and through their investigative efforts, determined the cases were connected with the same suspect, Miller. Miller is associated with a white van. Daycare Worker Sentenced in Child Sex Abuse Case

District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On March 4, 2019, Judge Andrew Erwin sentenced John Patrick Gilbreath to five years of probation with credit for time served following his conviction for Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree. Gilbreath worked at Partridge House daycare in Beaverton. Following his conviction at trial, he faced a mandatory 25-year minimum prison sentence pursuant to Oregon’s “Jessica’s Law” for sexually abusing a three-year-old child at the daycare. However, the court determined that a 25-year prison sentence would be unconstitutional in Gilbreath’s case because there was not sufficient evidence to prove that Gilbreath’s actions were done with a sexual intent. Gilbreath will be required to register as a sex offender and while he is on probation he will undergo sex offender treatment and be forbidden to have contact with minors. Multiple Burglaries Solved, Suspect in Custody

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  – A 27 year-old Roseburg man has been arrested after committing multiple burglaries and thefts in Douglas County. Donovan Joseph Spontini was arrested and lodged in the Douglas County Jail, Monday. On Monday, March 4, 2019, a deputy took a report of stolen vehicles and heavy equipment from Umpqua Aggregate Resources in Roseburg. The theft included two Dodge Ram pickups, a 30-foot trailer, an excavator, a track loader and several tools. The theft totaled $235,167.00. The business owner posted information on Facebook regarding the theft and later received a tip regarding the location of the property. Deputies followed up on the tip and responded to the area of Cooper Creek Reservoir in Sutherlin, where most of the stolen property from Umpqua Aggregate Resources was recovered. Canyonville Man In Custody After Running on Interstate 5

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office CANYONVILLE, Ore. –  A 27-year old Canyonville man was lodged in the Douglas County Jail Monday night after running on the interstate and assaulting a deputy. At 4:41 P.M., deputies were dispatched to the area of the Napa (400-block S. Pine Street) in Canyonville. It was reported that Kyle Joseph Fugate was running around believing people were out to get him. When deputies arrived in the area, Fugate was found to be running northbound on Interstate 5. Fugate was initially detained, then head-butted the deputy. The deputy was not seriously injured.  Fugate was transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was lodged on the following charges: Disorderly Conduct Probation Violation Assault on Public Safety Officer

Colorado Male Arrested For Luring A Minor In Beaverton

Beaverton Police Dept. On February 26, 2019 Fort Collins Police officers in Fort Collins, Colorado arrested 47-year-old Jason Allan Surprise regarding his luring of a minor from Beaverton. On January 25th BPD officers started investigating Mr. Surprise after his online conversations with a 14-year-old Beaverton youth came to light.  The youth and their parents reported the inappropriate conversations to BPD.  The extremely graphic conversations led officers to believe Mr. Surprise wished to have a sexual relationship with the youth.  Records showed Mr. Surprise was a registered sex offender living in Fort Collins, Colorado.  On February 14th a Washington County Grand Jury heard testimony in regards to this case.  The Grand Jury indicted Mr. Surprise on 2 counts of Using a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct (Measure 11) and 4 counts of Luring a Minor.
