Deceased Identified in 4/23/2020 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash East of Springfield

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office Update 4/28/2020:  The deceased in the crash that occurred on 4/23/2020 on Cedar Flat Road has been identified as 33 year old Darik Alan Kuta of North Carolina.   On 4/23/2020 at 3:28 p.m. the Lane County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single vehicle crash on Cedar Flat Road.  Deputies and McKenzie Fire and Rescue responded and located a Toyota Tacoma that had gone off the road into a tree and caught on fire.  The only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene.  It is unknown at this time why the vehicle left the roadway. The Lane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death with the Lane County Medical Examiner's Office.  The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time as we work to notify next of kin.

South Dakota Man Arrested for Money Laundering - Klamath County

Oregon State Police  On Monday, April 27, 2020, at approximately 11:14 A.M., an Oregon State Police Sergeant conducted a traffic stop on a 2019 Dodge Caravan, for several traffic violations, on Hwy 66 milepost 51 (near Keno, Oregon). The sergeant observed signs of criminal activity and a search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, $236,090 in vacuum-sealed bags was discovered. The driver, Drew Miller (27) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was arrested and lodged in the Klamath County Jail on charges of Laundering a Monetary Instrument, Engaging in Financial Transaction in Property Derived from Unlawful Activity, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance I (Amphetamines), Tampering with Evidence and Conspiracy. The Oregon State Police was assisted by the United States Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations.

MORNING FIRE KILLS 4 PEOPLE

Sweet Home Fire Dist. This morning at 0650 am the Sweet Home Fire District responded to a structure fire at 1530 Tamarack Street space 29. Fire Crews found a manufactured home with heavy fire coming from 3 sides of the home.   The fire was reported by a passerby who attempted to alert the occupants. Fire crews located four deceased individuals inside of the structure.  A fire investigation is currently being conducted by Sweet Home Fire Investigators along with Sweet Home Police Department, Oregon State Fire Marshals Office, and Oregon State Police. 21 Firefighters from the Sweet Home Fire District Responded.

OFFICERS NAB STOLEN VEHICLE/GUNS/DRUGS

North Bend, Oregon Police Department On April 21, 2020, at approximately 7:36 P.M., North Bend Police dispatch received an anonymous tip regarding a possible stolen vehicle at Ashworth's Market on Sherman Avenue. North Bend Police Officers responded to Ashworth's Market and located the vehicle parked in front of the business. The vehicle was driven by a Patrick Donley. Donley and his female passenger were detained during the investigation. Officer Stark interviewed the suspects while Officer Carlson conducted a search of the vehicle.  Carlson located two hard zippered containers containing suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia, as well as a loaded .40 caliber handgun. Officers, you are commended for your quick response and stellar police work in removing guns and drugs from our streets, as well as returning a stolen vehicle to its rightful owner!

Douglas Co. Government (Douglas County, Ore.)   The Douglas County Board of Commissioners officially reopened the Douglas County Courthouse today.  This is not to be confused with the letter sent to Oregon’s Governor last week from the five SW Oregon Counties requesting a Phase One Regional reopening. At this time, only County Government offices have been reopened.   The order to reopen Douglas County and the rest of Oregon can only come from the Oregon Governor. Illegal Street Racers Stopped, Drivers Arrested, Cars Towed

Portland Police Bureau Extra resources from North Precinct, Traffic Division, Air Support Unit, Oregon State Police and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office patrolled North and Northeast Portland. Last night's directed patrol for April 26, 2020 resulted in 27 traffic stops, 10 traffic citations, 2 vehicles towed and 2 arrests. Individuals arrested: - Nicholas Murphy, 22, felony warrant for forgery in the first degree. - Ruben Gonzalez, 23, reckless driving These irresponsible driving practices can have a deadly outcome. There have been 12 Major Crash Team activations and 13 vehicular related fatalities this year. The Portland Police Bureau will continue its efforts in educating community members about the dangers of speed racing. Forest Grove Police Investigate Stabbing and Arrest Suspect.

Forest Grove Police On April 26, 2020 at about 8:20pm, Forest Grove officers with the assistance of the Cornelius Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Hillsboro Police Department responded to an assault with a weapon in the 2200 Block of Kingwood Street. Upon arrival officers found an adult male with multiple stab wounds. The suspect had left the scene. Officers conducted a K-9 track and subsequently located the suspect, Zachary Ryan Blessing age 32, near the 2100 Block of Hawthorne Street. Blessing is a Forest Grove resident. The victim was transported to a metro area medical facility. Blessing was lodged at the Washington County Jail for Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. There are no other suspects in this case. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstance surrounding the incident.

Suspect Arrested for Punching and Stomping on Victims Head in Downtown Neighborhood

Portland Police Bureau On April 26, 2020 at about 2:10 p.m. Portland Police responded to an assault in the 900 Block of Southwest 4th Avenue. Central Precinct Officers arrived and found an unconscious adult male lying face down on the sidewalk bleeding significantly from the head and face. The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. Officers were alerted by witnesses the alleged suspect was across the street. The suspect was quickly detained. During the investigation it was learned the suspect punched the victims several times and shoved the victim to the ground. This resulted in the victim striking his head on the pavement. The suspect then proceeded to stomp the victim's head into the pavement with his boot. 25 year-old Christopher James Pfegl was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Assault in the Second Degree. Oregon State Police  On April 24, 2020 Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Troopers and US Fish and Wildlife Service Officers responded to the Baskett Slough Wildlife Refuge near Coville Road in Polk County. Troopers and Officers located 17 Canadian Geese sick or dead on the refuge. Office of the State Fire Marshal Extends Rules Allowing for Self-Serve Gas to May 9, 2020

Oregon Office of Emergency Management The Office of the State Fire Marshal is extending a temporary rule change that allows Oregon gas stations to provide self-service on a voluntary basis, in order to address shortages of workers experienced by gas retailers statewide. The rules change was first announced on March 28 and then extended on April 11 to April 25. Today, State Fire Marshal Jim Walker extended the deadline another two weeks, through May 9. “We want to thank Oregonians and Oregon businesses for being flexible during these challenging times,” said Walker. “As we continue to monitor this ongoing situation, we feel it is best to extend this option for an additional two weeks.” The extension of the change will still allow station attendants to help customers while avoiding face-to-face and hand-to-hand contact. Crime Stoppers of Oregon The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve the homicide of a Southeast Portland man. On April 24, 2019, at 7:07 p.m., Portland Police East Precinct officers responded to the report of a person injured in a shooting in the area of Southeast 93rd Avenue and Henry Street. Officers and medical personnel arrived and located 34-year-old Robert Lewis IV suffering from traumatic injuries. Medical personnel determined that Lewis was deceased at the scene. The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that Lewis died as a result of a gunshot wound. Officers located evidence of gunfire at the scene but did not locate any suspects in the area. The Lewis family continues to grieve for the loss of their loved one and has shared photographs of Lewis to be released in the hopes that someone might have information about his death. Sheriff's Office CORVALLIS, Ore . – On April 22, 2020, The Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rolan Harvey Meyers, 35 of Albany, after knowingly soliciting a 15-year-old female child online, where he took substantial steps to engage in sexual contact with the girl. Oregon State Police Trooper seizes over 7 pounds of Narcotics on Routine Traffic Stop near Medford - Jackson County

Oregon State Police  On Friday, April 17, 2020 at approximately 4:00 P.M., an Oregon State Police Trooper from the Central Point Area Command contacted a 2019 Nissan Rogue for a traffic violation on Interstate 5 near milepost 33.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and the Trooper located two manufactured compartments on the floor of the vehicle.  Inside the compartments the Trooper found 7.2 pounds of cocaine and approximately 3.5 grams of heroin.  The driver was identified as Marisol Torres Cervantes (50) from Vancouver Washington.  Cervantes was lodged in the Jackson County Jail for Unlawful possession of cocaine, Unlawful delivery of cocaine, and Unlawful possession of heroin.

A stolen U-Haul truck used in the theft was recovered on Monday along with three lawn mowers stolen from another business. Below is a list of the outstanding stolen items valued at over $56,000. 2 Cottage Grove men cited for Trespass after climbing over barricade at closed beach entry, Otter Rock, Or

Sheriff's Office On 04/20/2020 at about 1:32 pm, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office received a report from residents of Otter Rock that two adult men were disregarding the park closed signage and chain link fencing erected to block the public beach access area due to the Covid-19 closure. The two unidentified subjects were observed climbing over the chain link fence, passing over their surfboards then proceeding down to the beach.  On the same date at about 3:38 pm, Deputy Dunteman observed two adult males matching the earlier description climbing back over the fence from the beach area. The adult males were identified as 20-year-old Max Gause and 19-year-old Konnor Owens both of Cottage Grove, Oregon. It was confirmed with the subjects that they were contacted by a local citizen prior to climbing the fence and were advised that the park was closed and that they would be trespassing if they chose to do so.  The Sheriff's Office has been actively patroll

Tiller Man Arrested After Pointing Firearm at Deputies

Sheriff's Office TILLER, Ore.  - A Tiller man is in jail after he pulled a firearm on deputies attempting to serve court papers Sunday morning.  At approximately 10:53 AM, on Sunday, April 19, 2020, deputies went to a residence in the 2100-block of Devils Knob Road in Tiller to serve court paperwork to 51-year-old Daniel Paul Schrack. When deputies arrived, they made contact with Schrack outside of the residence. Schrack became confrontational and began to retreat into a shop. One deputy gave Schrack orders to stop and then deployed his TASER, which did not have any effect. At the same time, another deputy attempted to detain Schrack at which point he lunged toward the shop door, turned and drew a firearm pointing it at deputies. He did not fire the weapon.  Deputies communicated with Schrack until he surrendered at 12:20 PM.
