MAN FOUND DECEASED IN RIVER NEAR GADDIS PARK

 Roseburg Police Dept On Friday, January 8th, 2021 around 11:48 AM, Douglas County Communications received a call of an adult male found laying in the Umpqua River near Gaddis Park in Roseburg.  The male was reported to be unresponsive, and the people that found him believed he was deceased. EMS personnel and Roseburg Police Officers responded to the area and the male was confirmed deceased.  The Douglas County Medical Examiner and Roseburg Police Detectives assisted with the investigation.  There were no obvious signs of foul play.  During the investigation it was discovered the male was currently living a transient lifestyle and had been hanging around in that area the past few days.  He was positively identified as a 48 year old male from Roseburg. As this is a death investigation, no further details regarding the incident will be released.

2 ROSEBURG MEN CONVICTED OF SEPARATE SEX ABUSE CASES

  Roseburg Police Dept. During 2020, Roseburg Police Detectives worked two separate cases involving sexual abuse allegations. Although completely unrelated, both cases involved the adult male suspect sexually abusing minor female victims who were known to them. Both men have been convicted and sentenced to prison for their crimes.   65 year old Glen Jay Essig of Roseburg was convicted of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Measure 11 offense, and was sentenced to 75 months in Oregon State prison. 62 year old Lawrence Walter Jackson, also of Roseburg was convicted of Sodomy in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, both of which are Measure 11 offenses. He was sentenced to 150 months in Oregon State prison.

MAN STABBED SEVERAL TIMES DURING ROBBERY

  Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 1:25 a.m., Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a robbery near the 100 block of SW 138th Avenue in Beaverton, Oregon. When deputies arrived, they discovered the victim had been stabbed several times in the upper body and face by an unknown male. The victim told deputies he had just arrived home and met his friend outside, 25-year-old Katherine Garrido. As the victim was unlocking his front door, a man ran up to the victim and demanded his wallet. When the victim explained he didn't have a wallet, the man began stabbing him in the upper body and face, then ran off on foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released. Ms. Garrido told deputies she witnessed the attack and gave a brief statement, then left the scene on foot. Deputies were able to view video surveillance footage from the victim's home that captured the incident.

TWO OREGON MEN FACE FEDERAL CHARGES FOR POCKETING MILLIONS IN COVID-RELIEF FRAUD SCHEME

  U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.—Two Oregon men are facing federal charges for fraudulently converting to their personal use loans intended to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, announced U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams. Andrew Aaron Lloyd, 50, of Lebanon, Oregon, and Russell A. Schort, 38, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, have been charged by criminal complaint with wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. Lloyd and Schort took advantage of economic relief programs administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA), including Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), as authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, 2020, was designed to provide emergency financial assistance to millions of Americans and small businesses suffering the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. UPDATE- EVENTS AT OREGON STATE CAPITOL ON JANUARY 6, 2021

 Oregon State Police Update On January 6, 2021 at approximately 6:00 P.M., Troopers contacted, Cody Melby (39), attempting to access several doors at the Oregon State Capitol.  He was contacted and arrested for Trespassing while in possession of a firearm.  Cody Melby was lodged at the Marion County Jail. *********************************************** On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Oregon State Police, Salem Police Department, and Marion County Sheriff's Office personnel were monitoring a protest that was occurring at the Oregon State Capitol.  At approximately 2:00 P.M., a group of counter protesters arrived at the Capitol and a fight broke out between the opposing sides.  Law Enforcement members quickly separated the two groups and worked to keep the two groups separate for the remainder of the day. OSP will not tolerate criminal activities and you will be arrested if you engage in any of these acts.  The security of the capitol is our priority, if you are considering any unlawful activities at the Oregon State Capitol or surrounding areas, please reconsider. The safety of our community members, Capitol occupants, and police officers is paramount. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN ARREST OF TWO SUSPECTS IN CALIFORNIA

  Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On January 5, 2021 at 11:07 a.m., the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS) received a 911 call from the Red Lion Inn at 1880 NW 6th St in Grants Pass. An employee located an unconscious man on the floor of a hotel room and requested immediate assistance. Police Officers with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. GPDPS Detectives were later notified and assumed control.  Through the course of the investigation, the victim was identified as 42-year-old Ryan Antone Dutra. Mr. Dutra is a resident of California and had rented the room at the hotel. He was found alone and sustained a gunshot wound. Detectives secured the scene and applied for a search warrant for the room. No other suspects or persons were located in the area or had knowledge of the incident. Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - Sheriff John Hanlin was sworn into office for his fourth term on Monday, January 4, 2021, at the Douglas County Courthouse.  Sheriff Hanlin was first elected to office in 2008 after the previously elected Sheriff, Chris Brown, accepted a position with another agency. Hanlin assumed office in January 2009 as the County's 48th Sheriff. At the end of his first term, Sheriff Hanlin ran unopposed and was re-elected in 2012, 2016 and again in 2020.  Hanlin has the honor of being the most elected Sheriff in Douglas County history, and soon will become the longest serving Sheriff in Douglas County as of August 2021.   Retired Sheriff Ira Byrd currently holds the honor of longest serving Sheriff. FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5 - MARION COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at approximately 4:13 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 5 at the northbound Market St. Interchange.   Preliminary investigation revealed that a female pedestrian was in the off-ramp lane of traffic when she was struck by a Honda Civic, operated by Nicholas Kreitzer (46) of Salem, that was exiting the freeway.  Kreitzer stopped and cooperated with the investigation.  The female pedestrian was pronounced deceased.   Name will be released when available. OSP was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT.

ROSEBURG MAN DIES DURING VEHICLE ACCIDENT

  Roseburg Police Dept. On Tuesday, January 4th, 2021 around 11:10 AM, Roseburg Police, Roseburg Fire and other EMS personnel responded to a single vehicle accident in the 1900 block of Airport Road in Roseburg. Witnesses said a black 1990 Toyota pickup, towing a flatbed trailer with another Toyota pickup on it, was pulling onto Airport Road from a side street.  Witnesses said the pickup accelerated suddenly, going straight across Airport Road, into the ditch and across the railroad tracks before stopping short of the airport fencing as the trailer got stuck on the railroad tracks.  Ambulance crews provided emergency care to the driver, a 49 year old male of Roseburg.  The male was transported to Mercy Hospital via ambulance, and was later pronounced deceased.   Based on statements from people who had contact with him just prior to the accident, and the circumstances of the accident, it appears he was having a severe medical problem, which is what led to the accident.  He had no obviou

Springfield Police Departmen On January 5th, 2021 at 2223 hours Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to 4475 Daisy Street #45 regarding an assault.   During the evening hours of January 5th, Randy Morphew engaged in a dispute with his elderly mother over money he believed to be owed.  During the argument, Morphew menaced his mother placing her in fear for her safety.  Morphew departed the residence with a knife while making threats against his uncle who resides in a trailer a few spaces from where his mother resides. Morphew ranted about the money he believed to be owed and broke several of the windows out of the uncle’s residence before fleeing on foot.  The police were notified; however, Morphew had fled the scene and could not be located.   Later that same evening the Springfield Police Department received calls from family and area neighbors that Morphew had returned home to his mother’s residence in space #45 and was again confronting her about money.  She was

OREGON STATE POLICE REQUEST ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING PERSON FROM DECEMBER 21, 2020 RALLY AT CAPITOL

  Oregon State Police The Oregon State Police is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the person involved in the unlawful use of a weapon at the Oregon State Capitol.  On December 21, 2020, at approximately 10:22 A.M., an unidentified person threw a device, similar to a tear gas canister, into a crowd of police officers and citizens at the Capitol building.  The device emitted smoke and a gas irritant.  Investigators located video footage of the individual and captured the attached still photos of the suspect immediately after the canister was thrown.  The person appears to be a white male, with brown hair and a short stocky/heavy build.    If anyone recognizes this individual or has information related to this event, please call the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at 1-800-442-0776 or *OSP.

K9 Nix Captures Suspect in Burglary Investigation, South Beach, Or

On Tuesday January 5th, 2021 at approximately 8:29 AM, Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Newport Police Department, responded to 6976 SW Surfland Street, South Beach regarding the report of a burglary at the residence.  Upon arrival Deputies confirmed that unauthorized entry was made into the residence, the unidentified suspect was not located at that time.  During the investigation it was determined the suspect was last observed traveling on foot heading North through private residential property toward SW 68th Drive. Personnel including Deputy Derick Smith and his K9 partner Nix responded to the area. K9 Nix identified a track of the suspect, leading Deputy Smith to a path to the beach where she located the suspect later identified as Jeremy Severns, age 34 of Newport. Mr Severns was taken into custody without further incident thanks to K9 Nix and assisting personnel.   Jeremy Severns was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on the following charges:

SHERIFF'S OFFICE SEEKS PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE LOCATING ROBBERY SUSPECT

  Lane Co. Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance identifying and locating a suspect in a robbery.  On December 24, 2020 at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Lane County Sheriff's Office received a report of a robbery at the AMPM market on River Road and Azalea Drive in Eugene.  The suspect reportedly entered the market and presented a note to the cashier, then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.   The suspect is described as a white male approximately 30-40 years old with a medium build, and is estimated to be between 5'06" and 6'00" tall. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and black shoes with red and white accents, pictured.  The suspect wore a hood over his head and a face mask, but he had dark colored eyebrows.   If you know the identity or location of the suspect described above please contact Detective Greg Jones with the Lane C
