HUMAN REMAINS LOCATED SOUTH OF BEND; REMAINS IDENTIFIED

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The skeletel remains located on February 17th have been positively identified as belonging to Chase M. Hove of Bend.  Hove was reported as a missing person to the City of Bend Police Department in June 2017.  DCSO detectives recovered a firearm with the remains and this case is being investigated as a suicide. “Suicide is a devastating public health issue. Missing Fisherman Recovered

Newport Police Dept. On February 9, 2020, Norman Grant was reported missing.  Newport Police Officers began an investigation and learned that Grant was last seen around 7:00 p.m. on February 8, 2020.  Officers confirmed Grant was a crew member of the F/V Prolifik, which was moored at the Hallmark Fisheries on the Bay Front.  Phone records and local video confirmed Grant’s last known location was on Bay Blvd in the area of the F/V Prolifik.  Officers searched the area and arranged for a dive team from Lane County to search the area surrounding the F/V Prolifik’s mooring.  Search efforts revealed no further evidence of Grant’s location. On February 26, 2020, a fishing vessel reported hitting something beneath the water surface in the area of the Hallmark Fisheries dock.  A local diver inspected the boat and found clothing entangled in the vessel’s prop.  The diver checked the immediate area, and located a human body about 80 feet south of the Hallmark Fisheries dock. K9 Axel Tracks Down Wanted Man

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office   SUTHERLIN, Ore.  - Two wanted Douglas County men are in custody after they ran from law enforcement.  Shortly before 10:30 am, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, deputies and officers from the Sutherlin Police Department went to a residence in the 100-block of South Avenue looking for 25-year old Billy James Wells and 23 year-old Johnny Lee Wells, both of Sutherlin. When deputies arrived, Johnny fled from the home on foot. A perimeter was set up to contain the area as deputies lost sight of Johnny.  Billy Wells was located hiding inside the house and was taken into custody by Sutherlin Police without incident.  Roseburg Police Department K9 Axel was dispatched to assist deputies. K9 Axel began tracking and quickly lead officers to Johnny who failed to comply with commands and was apprehended by K9 Axel until he could be taken into custody. Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On two different occasions, 20 year old Christopher Smith contacted a male juvenile via a social media platform. Smith invited the juvenile to his residence for the purpose of having sexual contact. Smith also exchanged illicit photographs with the juvenile, which were sexual in nature. Detectives with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety arrested Smith on 02/25/20 on the above listed charges. He was lodged at the Josephine County Jail.   ARRESTED: Christopher K. Deschutes County Deputy cited in motor vehicle crash from January on North Hwy 97

Bend Police Dept. Updated Release Bend Police investigated an injury motor vehicle crash at Clausen Drive and North Hwy 97 on January 5, 2020 around 8:04 p.m. involving Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputy Clint Baltzor.   Deputy Baltzor was traveling in the northbound lanes with his lights and siren on en route to a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. call out in Terrebonne, when the crash occurred. A black Nissan Rogue, driven by Scott Senn was in front of Deputy Baltzor and Senn attempted to yield right but was unable to as there was a vehicle in the right lane, which caused him to yield left instead.  There was a concrete barrier on the left, which prevented Senn from yielding to the left. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore. - Three Sheriff's Office employees were recognized Friday evening at the Roseburg Optimist Club Annual Respect for Law Banquet. The local group hosted their 44th annual banquet at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Friday evening, recognizing local offices from various law enforcement agencies throughout the county.  Renee Damas was recognized as the Douglas County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 Dispatcher of the Year. Damas was recognized for her dedication to the citizens of the county. She was described as always having an "upbeat and positive attitude". She has worked at the Sheriff's Office since 2012.  Corporal Kelly Dwight was honored as the Corrections Deputy of the Year. Cpl. Dwight. Dwight has spent 5.5 years with the agency serving in the jail. He is known for his can-do attitude and leadership abilities. ROSEBURG POLICE OFFICER CHRIS BONEBRAKE NAMED OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR 2019

Roseburg Police Dept. Officer Chris Bonebrake has been awarded the title of Officer of the Year for the Roseburg Police Department for 2019.  Officer Bonebrake was selected for this honor by a vote of his peers and supervisors.  He was given this award Friday night at the 44th annual Respect for Law banquet, hosted by the Roseburg Optimist Club.   Chris has been with the Roseburg Police Department since July of 2016.  Prior to that Chris worked as a deputy for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and he also served in the United States Marine Corps. Chris always comes to work with a great attitude and he is well liked and respected by all of his supervisors and peers.  Chris is currently a K9 handler on our patrol team, and he is paired with K9 Axel.   Please help us in congratulating Officer Chris Bonebrake!

MISSING MUSHROOM HUNTER LOCATED FRIDAY

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office REEDSPORT, Ore.  - On Thursday, February 20, 2020, at approximately 11:00 am, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was contacted regarding an individual who had gone mushroom picking in the Elliot State Forest off of Elk Ridge Road near Loon Lake on Wednesday, February 21st and had become lost. The lost male was identified as 65 year-old Juan Pitcher of Reedsport.  Deputies were dispatched to the area along with Search and Rescue. The terrain was very steep and rocky with thick brush and heavy timber. Search Crews searched until nightfall on Thursday without finding signs of Pitcher.  The search resumed on Friday morning. Around noon, crews began hearing a voice response from a male which came from deep within a canyon. Shortly after 1:00 pm, searchers located Pitcher who was in poor condition. FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5 - JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Sunday, February 23, 2020 at about 10:39 A.M., Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 southbound near mile post 23. Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 1996 Chevrolet SUV,  Craig McRae (70) of Vacaville, CA. was southbound on Interstate 5 when for unknown reasons went off the roadway, rolled over, and landed in a nearby field off the shoulder off the freeway. McRae sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Interstate 5 was reduced to one lane for approximately 2.5 hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by Talent PD, Jackson County Fire, Mercy Flights, and ODOT.

FBI SEEKING INFORMATION IN MEDFORD ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION SHOOTING

FBI - Oregon The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting of a Mid-State Electric Cooperative Substation. On June 1, 2019, unknown suspects using high-caliber firearms shot at a transformer and power regulators located at the “Mowich” substation. Approximately 1,000 customers lost power due to the severe damage, which is estimated at more than $400,000. To date, no group or person has claimed responsibility. NB I-5 LANES CLOSED AFTER CRASH IN WILSONVILLE

ODOT: PDX, Mt. Hood All northbound lanes of Interstate 5 are closed near Elligsen Road in Wilsonville after a trucked crossed over from the southbound lanes, causing numerous crashes and mutiple injuries. Crews are setting up a detour and working to clear the vehicles stuck in the closed lanes but we don't expect to reopen the northbound lanes until Thursday afternoon.   Travelers should expect lengthy delays in the area. 

MADGE Nets 30 Pounds of Meth in Separate Cases

Medford Police On Sunday, February 16th, MADGE Detectives were conducting follow-up on a large scale drug trafficking organization, believed to be bringing methamphetamine into the Rogue Valley. Detectives identified a possible vehicle involved, which was a 2015 Nissan Rogue, registered out of California. The vehicle pulled into the Chevron gas station, 2500 Hwy 66, in Ashland. Detectives made contact with the occupants, Christian Olivarria-Aguirre, 36, and Jacqueline Castillo, 35. A consent search of the vehicle yielded 20 pounds of methamphetamine. Both were arrested and remain lodged on $500,000 bail. In another investigation on February 18th, 2020, involving a different drug trafficking organization out of California, MADGE detectives observed a 2020 GMC SUV driving northbound on I-5, which committed traffic violations. Today, Kevin Dizney, a patrol sergeant with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative inquiry into alleged agency policy violations. Anytime the Sheriff’s Office receives information alleging a policy violation, we will completely investigate the allegation to determine if an agency policy violation(s) has occurred and if any personnel action is necessary.

PPB Serves Search Warrant on Suspected Drug House-7 Arrested

Portland Police Bureau On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, the Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a search warrant on a residence in the 1800 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue. During the past few months the East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team had received numerous complaints about drug activity connected to this residence. An investigation ensued, culminating in today's search warrant. The East Precinct Street Crimes Unit assisted with the warrant service today. HUMAN REMAINS LOCATED SOUTH OF BEND; INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On February 17, 2020, at approximately 3:51pm, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) were dispatched to a report of human remains that had been located on U.S. Forest Service land approximately one half mile south of the Deschutes River Woods area.  An individual hiking in the area made the discovery and reported the information to Deschutes County 911. Deputies and DCSO detectives arrived at the location and confirmed the discovery of human skeletal remains.  Deputies and detectives have worked since then, assisted by the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Medical Examiner, and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, to document, collect evidence, and recover the remains.   A State Forensic Anthropologist will conduct an examination of the skeletal remains in an attempt to determine identity and cause of death. SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at approximately 7:15 AM, a stranger in a blue SUV offered a ride to a student waiting for the school bus.  The student did not know the male driver of the blue SUV and declined the offer for a ride to school.  The male driver was described as a white male in his 40’s, no facial hair and medium length brown hair.  The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which is described as a dark blue Nissan Pathfinder with large chrome wheels (photo below).  The Sheriff’s Office is asking citizens to stay vigilant for suspicious activity such as this and report strange vehicles matching the description of this vehicle.  The Sheriff’s Office non-emergent number is 541-474-5123 or call 911 for emergencies.
