North Eugene House Fire Under Control

Eugene Springfield Fire Eugene Springfield Fire and Lane Fire Authority responded to a well involved house fire on the 200 block of Shamrock CT.  Initial arriving crews found a fully involved garage extending in to the home, complicated by a damaged natural gas meter.  There were no reported injuries to residents or Firefighters. Automatic aid in the Santa Clara area ensures a well staffed response from Eugene Springfield Fire and Lane Fire Authority.

Oregon State Police Requesting Public's Assistance with Hit and Run in The Dalles -- Wasco County

Oregon State Police  On Friday, May 1, 2020 at 11:38 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a hit and run crash on Interstate 84 near exit 85 in The Dalles. Several witnesses reported a lime green with grey highlights 2000’s model Subaru Outback hatchback with dusty red dirt operated by a heavy set male with grey ear length hair and a full beard driving the wrong way (westbound in the eastbound lanes) on the exit 85 off ramp and Interstate 84. Several vehicles were able to swerve and avoid the vehicle.  While attempting to avoid the vehicle a Ford Focus, operated by Peter Chapman (24) of Vancouver WA, swerved, struck the center divider and rolled onto its side.  Chapman was belted and not injured. The suspect vehicle did a U-turn on the freeway and proceeded back towards exit 85.  It is unknown if the vehicle went back into The Dalles or continued westbound on the freeway. Fatal Crash on Interstate 5 - Jackson County

Oregon State Police  On Monday, May 4, 2020 at approximately 12:21 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a vehicle crash on Interstate 5 southbound near milepost 29. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Mazda sedan, operated by Sidney De La Cruz (26) of Ashland, was southbound on Interstate 5 when she struck a pedestrian that was in the travel lanes of Interstate 5.  A second vehicle, a Ford utility work truck, operated by Shawn Child (49) of Molalla, also struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. De La Cruz and Child were not injured. Interstate 5 southbound was closed for approximately 2.5 hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by Medford PD, Central Point PD, Mercy Flights, Medford Fire, and ODOT. The name of the pedestrian will be released at a later time.

Suspicious Pursuit Arrest

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 5/3/20 at approximately 0055 hours, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Officers were alerted to a suspect caught on video checking door handles of vehicles near the intersection of NE A St and NE Elida.  Officers responded to the area and began looking for the suspect.  A gold Toyota Highlander was found leaving the area and the driver was recognized as the suspect from the video.   Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled at a high rate of speed into the parking lot of Elmer's Restaurant.  Officers moved to contain the vehicle which drove around to the north side of the Holiday Inn Express.  The suspect then ran from the moving vehicle, sending it towards parked cars in the Holiday Inn parking lot.  A GPDPS Officer used his patrol car to block the moving vehicle, preventing damage to the citizen cars in the parking lot, but causing extensive damage to the passenger side of the patrol vehicle.   The Toyota Highlander was

Fatal Crash on Hwy 26 - Grant County

Oregon State Police  On Saturday, May 2, 2020, at approximately 4:26 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 26 near milepost 150. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1967 Jeep, operated by Lawrence Goings (56) of Sheridan, was traveling eastbound, in right hand curve, when it traveled into the westbound lane and collided with a CMV operated by Mike Brown (65) of Powell Butte. Goings sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Brown was not injured. OSP was assisted by EMT’s from Blue Mountain Hospital, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, ODOT and the John Day Police Department.

Eugene Police Department On March 12, 2020, Jon Paul Powell, age 48, of Eugene, was charged with Rape in the First Degree and Sodomy in the First Degree. The charges are related to a case involving a minor that occurred in August, 2019. The Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate this case, and are concerned about the potential of additional victims. OREGON STATE POLICE TROOPER SEIZES METHAMPHETAMINE AND CASH DURING ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP - JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at approximately 12:16 P.M., an Oregon State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 pickup, for multiple traffic violations, on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 39.   The Trooper observed signs of potential criminal behavior and a search of the vehicle was conducted.   During the search the Trooper located 19.7 pounds of methamphetamine and $16,660 cash. The driver, Leonel Campos-Valdez (25), and the passenger, Francisco Vazquez-Cruz (24), were lodged at the Jackson County Jail for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine and Money Laundering.  The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations Medford Office. 

UPDATE -Oregon State Police Requesting Public's Assistance with Hit and Run Crash - Union County

Oregon State Police The driver of the involved CMV has been identified as Marlo Griffin (70) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.  Charges of Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver and Assault 4 will be forwarded to the Union County DA for consideration. On Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 5:47 P.M., OSP Troopers responded to an unknown injury, Hit and Run crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 277. Responding Troopers located a Mazda 626 , operated by Robert Floyd (56) of North Powder, in the median. Floyd had minor injuries. Floyd stated that he was passing a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) when it changed lanes in to him causing him to lose control and roll several times before coming to a stop in the median. Garage Fire - 663 NE Nash Street - 4-30-20

Roseburg Fire Dept.   At 9:00 p.m. on April 30 2020, Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to a residential garage fire at 663 NE Nash Street.  Neighbors reported a garage on fire next to the residence.   Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure.  The structure was set back from the street and down a short driveway.  Firefighters initially made an exterior attack and moved to the interior for extinguishment and overhaul.   Firefighters conducted a primary search and determined the garage was unoccupied.  Quick extinguishment of the fire stopped the spread to nearby residential structures.   A total of 10 firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Roseburg Police Department, and Avista Utilities. The garage sustained structural and water damage.  Fire investigators were on scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

DCSO Asking for Public's Assistance in Locating La Pine Woman and Her Three Children

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office   The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Trisha A. Jepsen of La Pine, and her three children; ages 11 (male), 3 (female) and 1 (female).  Jepsen and her children were last seen this past Monday at their residence in the 51700 block of Little Deschutes Lane, La Pine.  Jepsen’s family reported them missing this morning after not being seen or heard from since Monday. Deputies and detectives have been able to locate video surveillance of Jepson in Redmond yesterday and in Bend today that show her and her children are with 52-year-old Patrick J. Garcia of La Pine.  Jepsen has an active Restraining Order against Garcia.  Based on video surveillance, investigators believe they were buying food and possibly camping gear.  Jepsen is driving a 1998 light blue Plymouth Voyager van with front end damage.  No license plate is currently available for the van, as investigators have learned she very

Dept. of Public Safety Standards and Training You may be aware that the 2020 Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial at DPSST has been closed to the public this year in order to practice social distancing guidelines, due to the current COVID-19 health crisis.    This year’s memorial will be a shortened version of the traditional ceremony, complete with honor guard, bagpiper, bugler and roll call.  The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020. DPSST plans to video record the ceremony and post it soon afterwards so that family members, co-workers and friends of the fallen know that those who made the ultimate sacrifice are not forgotten. Arson Arrest

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 04/24/20 at 2043 hours, Grants Pass Police and Fire units responded to 208 SE M Street, Bobo's Wash and Wax, for a report of a male standing in the roadway yelling about a fire at the location.  When Fire and Police arrived on scene, the fire was contained, and the male was gone. During the initial investigation, it was determined the fire was intentionally set.  A suspect was developed and later identified as  52-year-old Troy Garcia, via evidence left behind at the scene.  Unfortunately, Mr. Garcia was not located at that time. On 04/26/20 at 0532 hours, Police and Fire units responded back to the Bobo's Wash and Wax for a second, larger fire inside the carwash which Fire Personnel were able to contain 11 minutes after 911 was called.  Mr. Garcia was suspected of starting the second fire as well.  A Police K9 was summoned to the area to search for Mr. Garcia, but he was not located. WISCONSIN MAN CITED FOR POSSESSING 132 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, April 28, 2020 an Oregon State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Chrysler Van on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 60. During the traffic stop the Trooper observed several signs of criminal activity and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search revealed two large duffle bags containing approximately 132 pounds of marijuana. The driver, Bryant Oglen (52) of Wisconsin,  stated he had flown into Medford and was driving back home to Wisconsin. Oglen was cited and released for unlawful import/export of marijuana.

Sweet Home Police Respond to Fatal Fire - 3

Sweet home Police Department SWEET HOME, Ore. April 29, 2020 3:05 p.m. — Investigators from the Oregon State Police Arson Unit, the Oregon State Fire Marshal's office, the Linn County Medical Examiner's office, the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, the Sweet Home Police Department and detectives from the Linn County Major Crimes Team continue to work at the scene of a fire that took place on Tuesday, April 28th. The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District and the Sweet Home Police Department responded to a house fire at 1530 Tamarack Street in Sweet Home on Tuesday, April 28th, just before 7:00 am. The residential structure was engulfed with fire upon their arrival. When rescue personnel entered the home, they discovered four victims. At this time, the identities of the deceased will not be released until they are positively identified. The autopsies are scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 30th. RADE Arrest / Seizure

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 04-28-20 at around 4:45 pm RADE detectives observed a white Toyota pick-up in Cave Junction near Perfect Pizza, 212 N Redwood Hwy, with a stolen license plate. The detectives requested a marked patrol vehicle and an Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant who was in the area responded. With assistance from OSP, the occupants were detained and interviewed. The license plate was determined to be stolen out of the City of Grants Pass on 04-21-20. A female occupant, Iris Marie Jessee 21 years old, was taken into custody after a consent search and lodged for PCS/DCS Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Seized during the investigation was over 50 grams of methamphetamine, packaging material and cash. Also seized was a firearm in Jessee's property, which was readily accessible to her. Burglary Arrest

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 04/25/2020 at 0214 hours, GPDPS officers responded to 825 NE F Street for a reported alarm at Redwood Cannabis.  On arrival, officers discovered a forced burglary had occurred at the location and $200.00 in merchandise had been stolen.  During the investigation, officers retained video surveillance indicating two suspects entered the location after causing damage. The estimated damage to the location was $550.00.  James Hall Jr was identifed as a suspect and contacted at Baker Park on 04/27/2020. He was later lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree and Theft in the Second Degree. The second female juvenile suspect has been identified and contacted as well as being charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Theft in the Second Degree.
