Fatal Crash on Interstate 5 - Douglas County

Oregon State Police  On Sunday, July 12, 2020 at approximately 8:39 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 144. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Dodge pickup, operated by Ruth Youngblood (71) of Sutherlin, was southbound on I-5 when it left the roadway and struck a tree. Youngblood sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. One male juvenile passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  A second male juvenile passenger was flown by air ambulance to Springfield with serious injuries. OSP was assisted by North Douglas County Fire, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.

Eugene Springfield Fire Water Rescue Crews Rescue 18 in Two Incidents on Saturday

Eugene Springfield Fire July 11th, 2020 Springfield Oregon.  Eugene Springfield Fire's Water Rescue crews rescued 18 people from the Willamette River on Saturday.  At 5PM C3 along with Boats 5 and 6 were dispatched to Clear Water park where 17 people experienced a mishap while floating the river.  In all 17 people were pulled off an island by the Boats and 4 were transported to local hospitals for minor traumatic injuries.  At 11PM C3 and Boat 5 responded to the Wheeler Rd area of the Willamette River for an injured and hypothermic subject stuck on an island. Night operations in low and unfamiliar water prevented the Boat from launching, but crews devised a plan to safely use the team's inflatable craft to access and retrieve the injured subject who was later transported to a local hospital.  In both incidents Eugene Springfield Fire was assisted by Lane County Sheriffs and Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire.  We would like to remind people that rivers are dangerous places to recrea

Oregon State Police On July 8, 2020 investigators developed information that Hagenno might be associated with a vehicle.  Investigators located that vehicle at approximately 2:00 P.M., on Hwy 238 near Jaynes Dr.  OSP with assistance of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety made contact with vehicle and Hagenno was inside and taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of Murder 2, Unlawful use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Body of Deceased Kayaker Located

Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. -  The body of Jared Bruce Boria was located in Diamond Lake on Thursday morning.  At approximately 11:20 am, on Thursday, July 9, 2020, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report that the body of a deceased male was located in the lake. Marine Deputies along with the Douglas County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and recovered the body of 37 year-old Jared Bruce Boria of Vancouver Washington. His family has been notified.  Boria had previously been presumed drowned after he went missing on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. Boria had launched his kayak from his camping space at Diamond Lake Campground and paddled out onto the lake after 10:00 PM. At approximately 10:20 PM, dispatchers began receiving reports of a male yelling for help from the water. ONLINE SEXUAL CORRUPTION OF A CHILD

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 07/08/2020, 60-year-old Keith Maclin contacted a female juvenile via a social media platform.  While speaking with the juvenile, Maclin planned to meet with her in order to have sexual contact with the juvenile. Maclin drove from Texas to Oregon with the intent of meeting with the juvenile. Detectives with Klamath Falls, Jackson County and Grants Pass Department of Public Safety surveilled Maclin as he traveled through Oregon, and later detained Maclin in Grants Pass. He was lodged in the Josephine County Jail for Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree and Luring a Minor.   This investigation is on-going and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact GPDPS at 541-450-6260

FATAL VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Roseburg Police Dept. On July 9th, 2020 around 0200 hours, emergency personnel from the Roseburg Police and Roseburg Fire Departments responded to a single vehicle rollover accident in the 1600 block of SE Pine Street in Roseburg. The accident involved a 1999 Honda CRV that was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed, southbound on Pine Street.  The vehicle left the roadway in the 1600 block, striking the guardrail and sending the vehicle airborne.  The vehicle landed upside down on a lower access road, trapping both occupants inside.  The passenger in the vehicle, 25 year old Jacob Bickell of Myrtle Creek, was pronounced deceased at the scene.   The driver, 21 year old Michael McCollum also of Myrtle Creek, was transported to Mercy via ambulance for severe injuries he sustained in the accident.  McCollum was later life-flighted to Sacred Heart Riverbend in Springfield for further treatment.  Next of kin for Bickell have been notified. Passerby Saves 2-year-old Who Ran Across Highway 97 and Fell into the Canal

Redmond Police Dept. On Tuesday July 7, 2020, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Redmond Police Department responded to the area of Highway 97 near NE Larch Ave. for a report of a two-year-old child running across both lanes of north Highway 97.  Further reports stated the child had fallen into the canal and was rescued by a passerby who witnessed the event.    The passerby, an adult female from Terrebonne, Oregon, had been driving northbound on Highway 97 when she saw a male, later identified as being the two-year-old’s father, flagging down vehicles when she saw the child run across Highway 97.  She pulled over and watched the child run through the grass and through a fence which separates the canal from the road.  She was concerned the child was going to run into the canal, so she exited her vehicle, crossed all four lanes of traffic and followed the child towards the canal.  While catching up to the child, she watched him fall into the canal.  She jumped the fence, jumped into

Driver of Stolen Vehicle Collides with Driver of a Separate and Unrelated Stolen Vehicle

Newberg-Dundee Police Dept. On the morning of July 5, 2020, Newberg-Dundee Police officers responded to a report of a suspect that had just stolen a victim’s Toyota Land Cruiser.  Officers located the stolen vehicle moments later as it drove through town.  The suspect attempted to elude police through downtown Newberg and crashed the Land Cruiser into an occupied Buick Regal near E. Franklin & College St.  Officers took the suspect into custody from the Land Cruiser, but then learned the Buick Regal was also stolen from a completely unrelated crime that had been reported about three weeks prior.  The driver of the stolen Buick was found to be under the influence of intoxicants and arrested as well. SUSPECT IN FATAL SHOOTING IN RIVER RD. AREA ARRESTED FOR MURDER

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 7/5/2020 at 7:03 p.m., the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot wound at a residence on Smithoak Street in North Eugene.  Deputies arrived and located a deceased male with a gunshot wound and two other males at the home.  Initial investigation indicates the three males lived together and were engaged in a physical dispute over living arrangements just prior to the shooting.  Deputies investigated the death and have arrested 59 year old Martin Joyce of Eugene who was lodged at the Lane County Jail on Murder.  Deputies are notifying family of the deceased prior to releasing his name.  This investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication of a continued threat to the community in connection with this case. 

APARTMENT COMPLEX FIRE

No.2 At 00:58 Sunday morning firefighters from the Winston-Dillard Fire District (WDFD) and Douglas County Fire District No.2 (DCFD2) were dispatched to a reported apartment complex fire located at the Blue Ridge Apartments in the City of Winston. Crews received an initial report of an adult trapped on a second floor balcony with their child and her apartment was quickly filling with black smoke. The crews arrived to find a large amount of smoke and fire exiting the back of the structure and through the roof. Firefighters swiftly found that the fire was blocking the front doors for two apartments. Fortunately, with quick thinking and the help of neighbors both occupants and their children were able to get to safety. Crews were able to knock down the majority of the fire with an aggressive initial fire attack. GREEN DISTRICT MAN ASSAULTED, FIVE SUBJECTS ARRESTED

Sheriff's Office On Friday, July 3, 2020 at approximately 2250 hours, Douglas County Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call that Kenneth Hale (63 yoa, Roseburg) had been assaulted by the neighbors while at Hale’s residence located at 4355 Depriest Street, Roseburg. Kenneth Hale was transported to Mercy Medical Center with facial injuries and a severe injury to his eye. Hale was alert and responsive and stated that Aaron Pfannenstiel (31 yoa male, Roseburg) walked onto his porch and banged on the door after a verbal argument regarding fireworks. Hale said Pfannenstiel reached inside Hale’s home and grabbed Hale by the throat. Hale took Pfannenstiel to the ground to protect himself. Search Continued for Missing Kayaker Presumed Drowned

Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. -  The search for Jared Bruce Boria, a missing kayaker presumed drowned, is still underway.  The 37 year-old went missing Tuesday, June 30, 2020, after he launched his kayak from his camping space at Diamond Lake Campground and paddled out onto the lake. At approximately 10:20 PM, dispatchers began receiving reports of a male yelling for help from the water. Boria was later reported as missing by his wife.  Search efforts are in the fourth day since the the initial report. Searchers have located his kayak, his paddle and shoes, but have not found Boria.  "There are factors which make this a difficult search mission. The primary difficulty we are currently facing is that no one observed where Jared was on the lake when he was calling for help," said Sgt. Brad O'Dell. Sheriff's Office DRAIN, Ore.  - Deputies are seeking information as to the whereabouts of a missing 15-year-old from Drain.  On Thursday, July 2, 2020, deputies were contacted regarding 15-year-old Taylor Cosby who has been missing since June 25, 2020. Cosby reportedly ran away from her home in the 300-block of Highway 38 and has not been heard from since. Family suspects she is still in the Drain area. Cosby is described as Caucasian, 5'2'' tall, weighing 130lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last known to be wearing a black hat, green t-shirt and tall black gardening boots.  Deputies ask anyone who has information about Cosby's whereabouts to call law enforcement immediately at (541) 440-4471. Oregon State Police On June 24, 2020 at approximately 3:45 P.M., a shooting occurred at Pinecrest Drive and Tiffany Way in Grants Pass OR.  Detectives located Theodore Homer Robison (55) from Josephine County there shot several times and he was pronounced deceased.. Investigators have identified Bret Alan Hagenno as a suspect and believe he could be armed and dangerous. Hagenno is described as 6 foot tall, approximately 250 pounds and balding.  He may or may not have a beard and is known to frequent Josephine and Jackson Counties. Oregon State Police Major Crimes Section Detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating Hagenno who is wanted for Murder II in Josephine County. If anyone has seen Hagenno or knows his whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Oregon State Police Southern Command Center at 541-664-4600 and reference case SP-20-173329. Hagenno is considered to be armed and dangerous. If located, do not contact and call the police (911).

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE GLIDE SHOOTING

Sheriff's Office GLIDE, Ore.  - Detectives are investigating an incident where a man shot another man in the head Wednesday night.  Shortly before 10:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call that a male had been shot in the head by 65-year-old James Thomas Crayton of Glide, at a residence in the 1500-block of Bar L Ranch Road in Glide.  When deputies arrived, they found the victim, 48-year-old Christopher Lee Wagner, also of Glide, to be alert and responsive. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  Deputies learned Crayton and Wagner had been involved in a brief argument before Crayton shot Wagner. Crayton then tried to discard the firearm prior to the arrival of law enforcement.  Crayton was arrested and lodged in the Douglas County Jail for Assault II. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow. 

Search for Missing Kayaker at Diamond Lake

Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore.  - A Vancouver, Washington man is missing after taking his kayak onto the lake late Tuesday night.  At approximately 10:20 PM, 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a man yelling for help from the water at Diamond Lake. No one was able to see the man, but reported he sounded as if he was in distress.  Shortly after the initial report, dispatchers received a report of a missing person at Diamond Lake. Deputies learned 37 year-old Jared Bruce Boria of Vancouver, Washington was camping at Diamond Lake Campground. Shortly before the 9-1-1 calls, Boria had put his kayak in the water and paddled into the lake. Sheriff's Office At about 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2020, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of a theft in progress at the Eagle Creek Jackpot, located at 29629 SE Hwy. 224. A young adult male and two unidentified juveniles were attempting to steal beer when their plans went significantly sideways. The two juvenile suspects ran out of the Eagle Creek Jackpot carrying cases of Keystone and Coors beer. They then jumped into a waiting suspect vehicle, a 1997 Acura CL driven by  Caleb Scott Mitchell , 18, of Wilsonville. A gas attendant attempted to stop the teens from leaving. Mitchell reportedly accelerated the getaway vehicle toward the attendant. A customer in the parking lot saw this and believed the suspect driver was attempting to hit the attendant with the Acura.  Thinking fast, the customer pulled his Honda Civic in front of the suspects. FATAL CRASH ON HWY 101 - DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at approximately 10:46 A.M., a Douglas County Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle south of Reedsport on Hwy 101.  The vehicle fled and eventually crashed on Hwy 101 near milepost 217.   The operator of the vehicle is deceased.   What appeared to be explosive devices were located at the scene and the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit is heading to the scene.   Oregon State Police is investigating the crash.  Hwy 101 will be closed for several hours with no detour available.      More information will be available when appropriate.

Fatal Power Glider Crash at the Bend Municipal Airport

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office   On June 30, 2020, at approximately 1:25pm, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a glider crash in the NE corner of the Bend Municipal Airport.  Witnesses reported the aircraft caught fire immediately after it crashed.  Deputies arrived and confirmed a power glider had crashed just after take-off from the airport and the sole occupant, Christopher S. McKeage of Bend, was deceased.  Bend Fire Department resources quickly extinguished a small brush fire that occurred because of the crash before it could spread to nearby trees. Deputies spent the afternoon photographing and documenting the scene, contacting witnesses, and collecting nearby video surveillance around the time of the crash.  The information collected will be forwarded onto the FAA and NTSB to assist with their investigation. Sheriff's Office seeks public's assistance in death investigation

Sheriff's Office Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s assistance locating a late 90s or early 2000s gray Toyota Tundra, pictured, and the male driver and passenger who transported an injured female to Sacred Heart University Hospital in Eugene this morning around 4:30 a.m.  Preliminary investigation indicates the woman was picked up in the River Road area and transported to the hospital, but the driver of the truck left before additional information could be obtained.  Injuries indicate the female may have been struck by a vehicle.  The female victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital and Lane County Sheriff's Office is investigating her death with the Lane County Medical Examiner's Office.  Deputies are working to notify the victim's next of kin prior to releasing her name.    The photo of the truck (attached) was taken in the River Road area where the female was thought to be picked up, and matches the description

Roseburg Police Dept. The deceased female has been positively identified as Tazia May, 32 years old, of Roseburg.  Her next of kin have been notified.   On Monday, June 29th, 2020 just after 0815 hours a citizen reported seeing a human body floating face down in the South Umpqua river, just west of Micelli Park in Roseburg.  Emergency personnel from the Roseburg Police Department, Roseburg Fire Department, Douglas County District #2 Fire Department, and DCSO responded to the area.   They found a female, deceased, in the water about 25-30 feet from the shore.  Personnel from District #2 Fire were able to recover the body with their boat. The adult female has been positively identified, but her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  The Douglas County Medical Examiner took possession of the body.   The female was fully clothed and there were no obvious signs of external physical injury.  The investigation is ongoing, but at this time there is n

Probation Officer Injured In Hit & Run Crash at Community Corrections

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On June 26, 2020 at approximately 3:43pm, Officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to Josephine County Community Corrections for a report that an Officer had been struck by a vehicle which fled the scene.  Officers also learned the suspect driver, identified as Michael Williams, had felony warrants for his arrest.  Williams fled from the area in a black BMW, and citizens called 911 to report his erratic and dangerous driving behavior.  Williams was last seen traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Highland Ave toward Merlin. Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the suspect vehicle and a pursuit ensued.  They eventually took Williams into custody on Interstate 5 near milepost 61. The investigation revealed Williams had driven to Community Corrections to pick up Marijha Nieto, the owner of the BMW.  Nieto had already been detained by Probation Officers for unrelated drug char

Detectives Investigating Human Remains Found in Northeast Salem **Update 4**

Sheriff's Office On June 10th, 2020, investigators with the Marion County Sheriff's Office recovered human remains in the crawl space beneath a duplex in northeast Salem.  Initial efforts to identify the deceased were unsuccessful.  On June 24th, 2020, a sketch of one of the victim’s tattoos was shared with the public in an effort to help identify the victim.  After receiving many community tips, the victim in this case has been positively identified as Josiah Bagnall, 18, of Salem. Detectives are continuing to investigate Mr. Bagnall’s death.  We are asking anyone who has information about Mr. Bagnall and the events leading to his death to call our tip line at  503-540-8079 .  Due to this being an open investigation, no additional information will be provided at this time.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On June 24, 2020, at approximately 4:00 P.M., Josephine County law enforcement responded to the area of Pinecrest Drive and Tiffany Way for a homicide investigation.  The deceased has been identified as Theodore Homer Robison (55) from Josephine County. Sheriff's Office MYRTLE CREEK, Ore.  - A 32-year-old Myrtle Creek man is in custody after detectives investigated a report of an unexplained injury to a child.  On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, Douglas County Sheriff's Office detectives were notified of a 5-year-old child who had suffered an unexplained fracture of his femur. Detectives, conducted a thorough investigation and ultimately developed probable cause to for the arrest of 32-year-old Bronson Daniel Knight of Myrtle Creek. The child was known to Knight. Knight was arrested on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, on charges of Assault II and Criminal Mistreatment I.  Case #20-2668

Gresham Police Dept Elliot has returned home safely. Thank you to everyone for sharing and keeping an eye out.  Please help us find missing 12-year-old Elliot Niilamptey Bruce. He has dark hair, is approximately 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds. Elliot was last seen on Monday morning, June 22nd, after leaving a sleepover near the 17400 block of NE Halsey St. Elliot was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt and gray shorts. Anyone who knows of Elliot’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Detectives Investigating Human Remains Found in Northeast Salem **Update 2**

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On June 10th, 2020, investigators were called to investigate human remains discovered in the crawl space beneath a duplex in northeast Salem.  Following an autopsy, the death was determined to be a homicide.  Investigators are asking for the community’s help identifying the victim. The victim is an unknown race male, under 50 years of age, approximately 5’8”, 130 lbs, and appears to have dark colored hair.  The victim has two visible tattoos; “Baby Boy” is tattooed above the right knee and a second small unidentifiable tattoo is on the right side of the rib cage.  When discovered, the victim was wearing a Champion brand t-shirt. If anyone has information which may help identify the victim they are being asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at  503-540-8079 . Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2   On Monday 6/22 at 5:14 pm Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the report of a structure fire in the 10000 block of Garden Valley Rd.  When crews arrived on scene they found fire on the porch extending to an exterior wall of a house.  All six of the home’s occupants were able to reach safety prior to the arrival of fire crews.  The initial crew was able to quickly extinguish the exterior fire.  Additional crew entered the structure to check for extension.  An initial investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was likely accidental.  Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded with 3 Fire Engines, a Water Tender, an Ambulance and a Command Vehicle.

Suspects in Alabama Mass Shooting Arrested by Marion County Sheriff's Office

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On June 21, 2020 at 12:30 pm deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office,  together with members from the Marion County SWAT team, initiated a traffic stop on a Silver/Grey Dodge Charger with Alabama license plate in Stayton. Inside the vehicle they located two men wanted for murder in Alabama.  On June 19, 2020, arrest warrants had been issued for Frederic Rogers, 22, and John Legg, 19, for the offense of Capitol Murder related to a mass shooting in Valhermoso Springs, near Huntsville, Alabama. Rogers and Legg were taken into custody, without incident, and lodged at the Marion County Jail. They are currently awaiting extradition back to Alabama. We would like to thank the local FBI office and Aumsville PD for their assistance with the safe capture of these two fugitives from Alabama.

Roseburg Man Arrested After Firing Shots in Riddle Thursday

Sheriff's Office RIDDLE, Ore.  - A Roseburg man was taken into custody on Thursday after shooting a firearm and pointing it at another person.  On Thursday, June 18, 2020, shortly before 2:30 PM, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of a shooting in the 300-block of Evergreen Ridge Road. It was learned gunshots had been fired from a vehicle and the suspect had pointed a firearm at another individual. The suspect left in a vehicle after picking up his brother.  Law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office and Myrtle Creek Police Department responded and were able to locate the vehicle, a silver Ford F150, on Main Street in Riddle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 35 year-old Roseburg resident Camden B. Ellenwood, failed to stop for pursuing officers. Ellenwood eventually stopped on Interstate 5 near milepost 108 where he was taken into custody.  Deputies learned Ellenwood had gone to the location to pick up his brother

Man arrested at Troutdale truck stop on charges of kidnapping

Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office On Wednesday, June 17, at approximately 11:51 p.m., Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a report of a kidnapping at a truck stop in the 400 block of NW Frontage Road in Troutdale. The adult victim reported that she was held her against her will and assaulted as they travelled from California to Troutdale. The woman was able to escape and get to safety inside a convenience store. Deputies found the suspect, identified as Lanny Bieroth, 49, inside the tractor truck and took him into custody. The victim was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. MCSO Detectives and a member of the Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team responded to assist in the investigation. Bieroth was booked into MCDC on charges of Kidnapping in the Second Degree. Additional charges are expected in other jurisdictions. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information can be released.
